I have a civic ex. i want to do a small drop and want to add new tires and rims. i prefer to just get better lowering springs rather than coil overs, but the only parts they offer are for the Civic Si. will after market si springs fit my ex?

welcome to the site...eibach has springs available for non-si models. I believe they are the only ones with springs for the EX right now.

Road Magnets are also available. Eibach Sportlines are suppose to be available soon as well if I remember right.

I have seen the Eibach but not the Road Magnets. So what would you prefer? I am going to replace the tires and rims soon and lower my car. I want to get 18" rims but i do not know the tire size yet. So, what springs would you consider to try and maintain the comfortable driving?

Well... there's two ways to go about it. (I run 17s with 225/45 tires so the outer diameter is stock)

Are you planning to plus size your wheel or are you willing to drop the sidewall height on the tire to maintain stock speedometer settings? You can always get an 18" wheel and run a thinner tire so you won't have any height issues of rubbing with drop springs and no speed issues either.

Or run an 18" and whatever size tire you want for looks depending on wheel width and fitment. What are you thinking for wheel specs? Are you trying to go flush and slammed or just a better looking setup?

Oh duh I reread your post.....

Im at work... ill be home soon and giveyou a better answer.

Allright so 2012 civic ex with stock wheel 16" and tire size 205/55/r16

Going to an 18" wheel with a +35 to +45 offset

on eibach 1" lowering springs and not rub or very very little and only over large bumps and have a speedometer that is off by less than 1mph and not need new parts to adjust your camber/alignment.....

18x7.5" you can run a 215/40/18 tire (-.3mph)

18x8" run a 225/40/18 (+.55mph)

If this is your first set of "low profile" tires, the tires are going to make more of a difference in terms of feel and comfort than the springs. The 40 profile tires will feel much rougher than the stock 55.

The eibachs, currently, will fit better than the road magnets. There were a couple small issues they needed to work out. Also running drop springs on your stock struts will cause them to wear out quicker. Eventually you should upgrade those as well to something like Koni Yellows. A fantastic setup.

Read up here... they have complete 2012 civic packages. Depends on how much $$ you want to spend all at once.

I'm on Road Magnets with 17s and 225/45, and it rides almost like stock, just a little stiffer. I personally don't mind the ride. I'm probably going to get new shocks soon just cause I've heard someone with Road Magnets blew their factory shocks recently. Not sure how the roads are where they are though.

^what's the difference between the si and ex springs? are they just running different rates? was wondering if I could swap the si suspension into a civic ex or ILX (I think, I remember that's what some kids did on 8th).

users on 8th swapped si springs into lower trims. The spring rates are stiffer

yea, but it supposedly raises the car slightly on the 8th gen. There are endless threads on 8th talking about the swap.

Yup. The Si weighs more than the non-si. The springs are slightly stiffer to compensate so by swapping you get a little higher static height.
