Head swap options

I see what your saying, but there are many variables that factor in. It would be better for fullrace to explain this.

full race has praised the integrated manifold because there is less distance to the turbo. It'll spool up faster that way versus a header/manifold design.

8th gen ^^

9thgen below

^ wins on distance to turbo...

for people going with non-turbo setups... a head swap would obviously be an improvement seeing as how you can gain intake/exhaust vtec etc.

Ok so hypothetically speaking for us average people just bolting up a turbo on low psi and tuning it would be more cost effective vs a head swap with the 20 some odd parts hytech said needed to be swapped.

absolutely. you will gain more power. and it will be much much easier. Head swap is good for people who wish to remain all motor, and also want the 8k redline we all love. and exhaust cam VTEC

I'd have to see what kind of numbers they're getting from the k20 head/exhaust combo...and how expensive the parts are. No clue what the 20 or whatever parts cost ...

complete K20 head will be at least 600 used, plus machining the head because youd be stupid to not at least make sure it was straight before bolting it on. plus sensors, misc hoses, custom header, oil pump, pistons, flash pro, tune.

i'm guessing in the ball park of 2000-2500 if you do the work yourself once its all said and done. and 3000-3500 if you pay a shop.

for what? maybe 70whp. and a higher redline. Sure its a substantial gain. Especially if you plan on stayin NA. But forced induction will always be easier and yield much higher results.

without a doubt you'd have higher hp #'s going turbo... I won't argue that. I've seen a few sites that sell machined/remanufactured k20 heads for like 500. Again... it's still unknown how expensive the other parts are for the swap. 270-300hp all motor is nothing to sneeze at.

I believe the last time someone called f-r about their turbo it was like $5,5XX range. Then add flashpro, exhaust, injectors, etc...

yea but is that complete? with valvetrain and cams?

you will still need exhaust, injectors and flashpro with the head swap.

275 all motor would be insane. but my point is that its a LOT of work. where as a turbo install you can do in your driveway with some jackstands, a friend and a six-pack.

What I was referring to, since obviously there has been some confusion, is doing the head swap then turbo. Kinda like this rsx. K24 block/k20 head. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1361762183.225766.jpg

Though I'm sure a build like this would cost a pretty penny.

Have you read this thread at all? The integrated header cast into the head of the K24Z7 is ideal for turbocharging. Doing a head swap to a K20 head to go turbo would be completely counter productive and one of the most fiscally irresponsible things you could possibly do.

Nope didn't read a damn thing :) giant wings on fwd cars are also fiscally irresponsible, but yet you still see it happen.
