I have a 2012 civic ex and I was board on sunday and desided to just cruse on the freeway for about 60 miles to see what kind of mpg I could get, I set the cruse at 65 and I averaged 48mpg. The only thing I have done to the car is put a drop in k&n filter in it. I have been pleased with the mpg. I did 70 to 80 on another trip I took and averaged 37 over 400 miles.

Very happy with my fuel economy - still less than 5000km on it.

And today's drive home from work...

We have been averaging about 31-33 with AC on, but not on max AC and staying out of vtec. 27.8 on the first tank with AC on max and hitting vtec is not that bad either! ImageUploadedByTapatalk 21368211651.345020.jpg

Max AC just throws on recirc so don't deny yourself!
Question, If I have my air' running and it's already set on recycle, then I hit the Max button....... what changes??????????? Really, more technical info ???? Thx

Looks like selecting Max just selects dash vent and recirc automatically for you.

Yes,that's it. Once the car cools down, select MAX AC and the recirc seems to keep the interior quite a bit cooler than regular AC. That's what I found last summer with the car.

Maybe it's just me, but I find the Si shifts differently with the AC on. I seem to have to rev it higher than I normally do to get a smooth shift. I'm guessing the higher load on the engine with the compressor engaged.

This is true! I have to do the same. Like you said, it's the extra load on the motor causing it.

We notice with max AC on the compressor cycles alot more. Putting more strain on the engine which in our exspirence we have seen the mileage drop faster. That is just us and our Si.. Maybe cause we are in hot AZ it cycles more?

This could be the case! It is a lot hitter there than it is in Maryland! Hmmm that is something we might have to test

Thx for the info ppl...... I've been running DF vents, reci, and AC on normal hot/warm day........ About the only time I run MAX is when I get in my car to cool it down quick....... Back to AC/REC ... I haven't found the need to run MAX as long as REC is on ................ What I still don't understand is what's different between AC and MAX/AC , as far as the compressor is concerned?

Nothing-makes no difference to the compressor. It may in fact make the AC work less hard as the air entering the evaporator would possibly be cooler and dryer than the outside air. Running AC on recirc would be the same with the exception that you get to choose which vents the air exits from.
