Could 87 octane cause any problems down the road?

For both the 2006-11 & 12- Civic Si Honda recommends PON 91 or higher and states you can use 87 or higher but it will result in decreased engine performance (loose horsepower) and may get ocassional knocking.
The horsepower loss in the stock Si is minor with at least one tuner stating they ran some of their dyno runs using 87 octane and that higher octane only provided "a few extra horsepower"
We've had our Si for 3 years (yesterday) 26,600 miles and are pleased with its performance on a steady diet (78 of 80 fill-ups) of 87 octane and are averaging 32.6 mpg actual.

Paid $1.91/gallon premium this weekend. Got change from a $20 bill. That's fun.
