I'd say microtel, it would be dofferent if like 10 of us were staying at Fontana, but we're not.

We can definitely take rt28 / hellbender (one of the best roads in the area) to Fontana for food one day.

You never know....I would think at least 2 cabins would be filled.

which would you recommend. I'd like a little scenery but I'm not trying to break the bank.

Microtel is about $85-$89 a night with Fontana Village lodge room(similar to Microtel) is $89 plus a $15 a person amenities charge.

If you plan on wanting your own room then Microtel is prob the way to go.....you get an "ok" continental breakfast too, from what I hear.

Is everyone planning to arrive on the 22nd or would "activities" start on the 22nd

If you can, arrive on Wednesday night the 21st so you can have all day Thursday to drive. @Nomar06 is working on an itinerary. Death_roll and the other guys will definitely have ideas/drives in mind. If you stay at the Microtel you will be darn close to the Cherohala Skyway. Even just a partial up and back to one of the parking areas will be super fun. The drive from Robbinsville to Fontana is pretty damn fun too.

There is one at Fontana Village Resort. Thats the other hotel people usually stay at. The campground is not at the actual hotel though. Its at the bottom of the hill near the dam/river side. There is a bathroom building with showers but from what I've heard, the showers are not heated. @Bruce Bartlow camped there.

I'm getting there early Wednesday morning, coming in on the dragon, checking in, taking a small nap until about noon, then going driving all day wednesday and Thursday.

Another 276 - 215 run is definitely in the works.

As well as the rarely spoken of crown jewel....rt281.

I think rt28 to highlands with a 215/281 run might be do-able. Definitely a day long drive. Could easily take the highway over and head down 107 to 281. I like the 276/215 loop since you can take the expressway there and back from Waynesville. Unfortunately that connector from 276 over to 215 sucks and if you hit traffic on 276 you are stuck. 215 is at least rural enough I haven't seen much traffic on it ever.

I thought 276 was damn fun when there was no traffic. its too narrow and no pulloffs to pass though. Looking Glass Falls is pretty nice to stop at for a minute too. Its just that section through Brevard that is long and sucky.

Possible map/loop: Skipping rt28.

I like that route and it will take a day, but I don't want to completely leave out rt28, both the hellbender and moonshiner sections. Maybe rt28 will be a separate drive with wayah road thrown in.

Thanks. That's exactly what I'm trying to figure out.

The meet dats are just dates where we might have items planned out if people want to stick together. Nothing is mandatory, so you can do as you please or hang with the group. Saturday is prob the only date where it's a good idea to stick to the group. There is usually a big group drive to other parts of the area with a group dinner towards the end of the night.

This is going to be my 11th meet if you count the days of the 8thcivic meets. Some meets I have stuck to the schedules, some meets I have ventured out with others and some meets I've had to help people out due to car breakdowns.

Any campgrounds nearby?

Fontana Village has a campground that is 1.5 miles from the main lodge. I believe it is $20 a night.

I'll look into the microtel. If anything I would be arriving on the 22nd and have to leave early on in the day the 25th.

Sunday is pretty much just to say our goodbyes.....most leave early on Sunday and some stick around for a brunch before heading out.
