Nah, you did the right thing. If anything its taking in cooler air from further forward in the bay. The resonator box connector you removed had a very high intake position up in the engine bay. I ran with a K&N panel filter and the resonator pulled for a long time. I got better throttle response but not much else. Definitely worth doing, I think, and its basically free.

What you should do is leave the pipe attached to the front of the air box and remove everything underneath it. Leave #8, the elbow pipe out the front of the air box and the section below it. Saw off the box at the bottom and you effectively have a CAI that can't hydrolock.

Heres a pic: Leave #8 and the section after it. There is not number on it but the section from gasket #10 to the box. Cut it off at the box and BAM! Free CAI. That is what I would do. If you removed #8, put it back and get rid of the rest but it sounds like you have already noticed how much better it is with the rest of that crap gone.

Well The only part I have removed is #8 and left the rest because I can't get to it. I guess I need to remove the bumper to get to that #12 bolt in the pic. I can undo bolt #13. But right now it sounds so good. and yeah feels better. But I guess that link webby put up is how to remove for the si. I guess is it the same pretty much for the r18? Just remove inner fender?

@Nix @webby @Pauly99to17 so I need some explaining on how this works. Ktuner and FP. So you buy it and then insert it into the port under the steering wheel. Okay then do you have to take it to a place to have them tune it. Or what? I just ordered the HPS short ram intake which I think I'm going to run the stock intake resonator up to it just for added cool air. And then going to buy the downpipe so at Christmas I can get the FP or KT. Help me explain what I have to do once I have the FP

You pay a tuner with a shop/dyno to tune you, or you go with someone like vitviper who remotely tunes. You upload data logs to his website and he adjusts your tune. You plug the new tune into your car and repeat the process until he's completed the tune.

There are a bunch of great youtube tutorials on how to use the FP.

Basically you have to download the FP manager program onto a Windows computer. Does not work on Mac. Then, plug the unit into the OBD port on your car. Its under the steering wheel. It will "lock" itself to the car. Then you can load a tune onto the FP unit and when you plug it into the car again it will load the tune onto the ECU.

To get an etune you connect the FP unit and put it into data log mode. It will record while you drive around. Then you send the log to your tuner. He adjusts the tune, sends it to you. Load the new tune onto the car and repeat the data log process. Repeat until finished.

Make more sense?

are you doing forced induction of any type? I know there were some differences when you get into forced induction between ktuner and flashpro. Talk to vitviper if you don't want discuss what you're doing. He can tell you the pros/cons depending on what your goals are.

No not forced induction. Nothing real crazy.

So to update and add a little review in as well. For all my R18 guys. If your buying an Intake and don't know which to get. I have the answer. Its the K&N 69-1020TS (Typhoon Intake System)
So I almost got the HPS Short Ram Intake. And boy im glad I didn't. For one the HPS makes your car run worse and makes it feel as if you have lost power instead of gaining like you should. This K&N intake is the best. No worries of hydro locking, and I feel a very noticeable boost in power in the 5k RPM range. Its very nice and has a very nice heat shield. all around it is top notch quality with top notch silicone hosing and all. Oh and the best part is the sound. My gosh it sounds so mean. It reminds me of the sound the Eco-boost mustang sounds like. sort of like a v6 and a 4cylinder combined with good vtech noise thrown in. Its great. it is a little pricey at $347 but In my opinion it is worth every penny. "if you want the best of something then don't settle for cheap". To summarize this all up. "amazing sound, amazing power gain". @webby @Nix @Pauly99to17

I thought about getting this too. But I heard it loses power in lower rpm range. It needs to be tuned up though. Have you noticed any lost power in lower range?
I also think about adding the P2R TBS to add a few more hp. Have you thought about it as well?
anyway I like the positive feedback from you.
Thanks

no and also i think the resonator piping delete causes a loss of power. i removed the resonator piping and my performance on the interstate was so terrible. I would have to beg the car to go once at 70. which foot to the floor and it just creeps so slow a prius could beat you. so i reinstalled the piping this week and the car just felt so much more responsive. So with this new inatke. total difference. good power feel and great sound. then again ive only had it on since this afternoon. but i tested it on a 911 call (volunteer firefighter here) on my way to a reported house fire. so yeah i was really pushing the limits. but yeah it feels great. its sounds amazing. really toned and loud. no rice about it. and good feel of power. dude just get it. its super easy to install. took me about an hour and half maybe more only because i took my time. but instructions are so great that come with it. plus there is loads of install videos for this inatake. just get it. Also i have thought about the p2r just didnt want it. im going to do rv6 downpipe and megan racing full cat back exhaust with ktuner and hopefully we will make some great numbers

can't wait to see getting it complete. I really wanna see what number the r18 can achieve without going to FI route, that really impresses many SI guys with stock.

@Nix @webby @Pauly99to17 does anybody know how much power the r18s make after (downpipe, catback, intake, and tune)?? If you know someone on here that's done all that let me know. I'm just so stuck on whether or not I will be happy with spending over $2K on all of that just to make hardly any power. My goal is to make 30+hp after all of those performance mods. Do you think it would make those kinds of numbers??

Good post. My goal is also similar. All I want is a bit more horsepower and quicker acceleration. If I could bump it up to around 160 or 170 at the wheel, I'm satisfied. This makes my civic a bit up to par.

@Jake LXer I see you got a good bit of bolt-ons. How much power does yours make. I'm just curious. Because man the r18s stock are just so slow. I want resonable fast accelerating. What your input on this. Should I do the upgrading or not
