I guess this was removed:
"I drove to Gatlinburg on Wed up the Foothills pkwy. nice road, Gatlinburg is a place that good taste left long ago."

anyway, yes, gatlinburg is a tasteless place for atmosphere... but there is a place just north of downtown that is a mom&pop diner that had pretty f'n good food and the price was cheap. A local pointed two of us there at last year's dragon meet when we happened to stop outside his motel to check a map. Cool guy, showed us photos from a few days earlier of a black bear that was standing by the motel front door (big sucker too)

Update:

I'm thinking about getting the dragon meet started early, I want to get everyone's opinion on when the meet should be and what we should do (besides drive :D) , I was going to send PMs to past attendees on 8th and pretty much format it as the past 6 meets. The only difference is that it will be under the 9thcivic name :excited:

I hope I can get as many members here chiming in, I think a dragon meet this year will continue to carry the "tradition"

When
When I stayed at Fontana at the end of July (2011), the place was full of people, but it was mostly families. This also is a concern for people to get a place to stay. Saying that, the Dragon was not nearly as crowded. I arrived on Friday and left Tuesday. July is ideal for a few cars, but not a group to stay at Fontana.

The same time frame as was in the past seems ideal, it limits the number of youngsters that can attend.

How about April or May (before Memorial day weekend)? I guess this would depend on if Fontana would give us a room discount.

Activities
  • bottom of dam photos
  • exhaust vid
  • fontana ballfield group photo
  • Cabin BBQ
  • ETF's north GA ride
  • nightly Dragon runs
  • I won't do a Cherohala loop ride, just too time consuming and usually run into stupid slow traffic (my personal preference)
  • as much as I think the huge group drive is cool, it's a pain in the ***. The Civics last year left well after the Subies and we still caught up to them mid-dragon. I prefer to know who is riding in front and behind me at all times (not tailgaters).

Actually just spoke with cookstar about his plans for a meet yesterday. Told him people here would really like to make a meet happen. He didn't dismiss going to the meet.

I just PM'ed him on 8th to see what he thinks.

I like the activities, the Cherohala loop might be in it, but it is long and the group can get separated, either voluntarily or not. Night runs should definitely be part of it. I still like going in September as the dragon traffic isn't bad and it keeps the kiddies at bay. Also it gives us plenty of time to get ready/save money/get the exhaust or tires on the car and so on.

If my job situation calls for it, I'd love to go once in the summer for a few days (a small meet, but not the official meet in Sept.) to either give the WRX one last ride or break in the BRZ :giggle:

I might be going in April as I have 37 hrs of vacation to use by 4/30 :woot: then again, FL or Vegas are also a good time
