Largest Percentage Of Cars Driven Daily Over 10-15Yrs Old

Americans are driving their vehicles longer, as the average age of vehicles has nearly hit 11 years, according to a new study by Polk. Blame a wretched economy and more reliable modern automobiles, but cars and trucks continue to stay on the road much longer than they did 15 years ago, when the average age was just 8.4 years.

According to a report in The Detroit News, there are other reasons for the change, including a decline in the number of miles driven last year and improved resistance to rust and corrosion. Regardless of the reason for the record-setting age of our American fleet, the news has the auto industry salivating at the prospect of boom times ahead. The National Automobile Dealers Association is predicting that new vehicle sales this year will hit 13.9 million.

I think the industry is going to have an awesome year," Toyota President and CEO Jim Lentz told the Detroit News.

Autoblog asked it's readers how old their daily drivers were. The poll info is above.

I bought my daily driver in July '11, a 1999 Acura 2.3CL (auto) with 30k miles. The car now has nearly 35k miles. Only services to date: oil change and honda changed the tranny fluid. There is a small hole in the mid pipe and think there is an occasional rattle in the cat.

30k miles on a 99 is quite a find.
A true cream puff. Leather=perfect, interior=never smoked in, floor mats even looked new, paint=near perfect, a couple dings, rear bumper has a clearcoat issue near the plate. Car tracks perfectly straight, brakes work great (perfectly smooth), even the wheels are shiny and in mint shape. I've had 2 offers from people that want to buy it... hahah

How the car looks today (doesn't show new Viper alarm, new head unit and sub)

quite the find...looks mint. Any reason you don't use the wrx as the daily?
yea, I was putting WAY too many miles on the WRX when I first got it. I was on a pace for 40k mi/yr... unacceptable due to the price of the car and what I was doing with it for those miles. So now, I mainly drive the Acura for short trips around town and the 30 mile loop to work and back. Am hoping to keep the wear & tear off of the WRX. Since the Acura runs so great, I just drive it alot anyway. The Acura gives me 25 mpg consistently

It's A Fast Pig!
I just sold my 2001 accord in december. It had over 201,000 miles on it. It still got over 30mpg and ran smoother than my civic.
