welcome to the site. You can buy oem navigation units at any point, but the cost is going to be a lot higher than going with aftermarket. People sell them out of wrecked cars, or you can buy them directly from a dealership. That being said, you could probably buy 4+ aftermarket units for the same cost. At least one user has a nav unit from ebay - http://9thcivic.com/forum/threads/made-in-china-navi.4124/

I've called two different dealerships regarding to the ordering a navigation system. They stated that one cannot be ordered because they are installed when the vehicles are being made? Found it a bit strange. They said the only way one could be installed was to go in and change all the wires for the navi system and that it would be costly but yet again they had no idea where i would be able to get a system because they cannot order one. They recommended going with aftermarket.

Thanks for the link :)

http://www.collegehillshondaparts.com/product/Honda/CIVIC/2012/4DR EX-L (NAV)/KA5AT/honda/navigation-unit-coo-mitsubishi/39541-tr0-305-honda/
actually surprised it's not a bit higher in price. msrp is almost 2800 for the unit itself, without the extra wiring needed.
Sale Price: $2,161.60

this has a parts diagram with part #'s. If you really want to go oem, I would contact them get the entire list of needed clips, wire harness items...etc.

If I went that route I would have to purchase an installation kit correct? Id be afraid that it wouldnt match the dash. Thats my only issue with ordering one of those.

That price sounds crazy! Then I would have to pay someone to install it. I can change my oil and change a flat tire but doing wiring and electric work is out of my range. Thanks once again for the links. Getting more information on here than calling parts and service at a dealership :clapping: glad i joined

Believe its textured black. It could be easy to order a kit for it and color match with the online pictures but once you receive it, it could be a total different story. Thats why I wanted to order a oem but sounds a bit expensive. Would be nice to find a wrecked car and take the unit out of it and just buy the necessary wires but that might take a while to find.

yes, you'd need the trim piece that goes around the oem navigation

standard radio compared to

navigation trim piece

I've seen the previous gen civic oem nav units sell out of wrecks for around 7-800 on ebay. That's usually just the unit itself without any wiring.

wonder if it would work on the 9th gen? Wouldnt mind not having a 2012 unit, just as long as it matched the dash.

found a pic of the 8th gen one -
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-HONDA-C...deo&hash=item564a6786e8&vxp=mtr#ht_3936wt_642

it's an entirely different unit, and had a powered flip down front to access the dvd drive/cds/etc. That auction has pics of the wiring setup - I haven't seen the back wiring for the current civic...but the new civic has the imid setup where the previous didn't. Navigation info will display on the imid. The previous nav was made by alpine, and this one is mitsubishi. I'd imagine the plug size themselves are different on the back of the unit

Major difference between 8th gen and 9th gen units. Not a bad price though.
