The rims will just reduce the amount of sidewall on your tire. If you get a rim 2" bigger than what you have now...draw a line 1" larger around your current wheels. That area that is tire...will now be your new wheel. Your overall size won't change, or you'll mess up your odometer & speedometer.

Getting rid of the fender gap requires different springs or coilovers. Coilovers are adjustable to almost any height you want. Springs are a set rate of drop. They'll say : "lowers 1" front/rear", or 2" front/rear and so on.

Springs run around $250 a set, where coilovers run around $1k a set.

Check out the suspension & brake forum. There are a number of threads where users show their setups. Maybe give you some ideas.

Best wheel and tire combo for performance?

I would run a very light 17" wheel like a Volk TE37 or Enkei RPF-1 and Dunlop Direzza Star Spec Z-1 tires in a 235/40/17.

Should work very well unless you wanna go turbo and blast 400hp, then just upgrade to 265 wide tires.

first like webby said lowering spring/coilovers will help reduce the wheel gap. as for tires i wouldn't cheap out and read reviews most of the online tire sites have reviews on almost every tire. the lower the profile (65, 60, 55, 50, 45, 40) the more you feel each and every bump.
when up-sizeing (going from 15" tire to a 17" tire) this site is helpfull http://www.tire-size-calculator.com/ you want to keep it close to where your odometer/speedometer on stock size tires. as for wheels 17" i would go with 17x7 +40 to +45 offset 17x7.5 +40 to +45 offset 17x8 +30 to +38 offset

If you find a wheel you really like but it doesn't come in white you can always plasti-dip them white for about $15.
