FIRST CAR DING

So it finally happened, despite months of parking as far away from everything as possible. someone opened their door directly into my passenger side back door. Theres a 2 inch long skinny ding now. You can totally tell it was a another person's car door. I have no idea when it happened because when my parents were in town I let them drive it a few times.

I am SO pissed, but conflicted about fixing it. not sure I wanna start a precedent of dropping 100 bucks every time this happens...and its bound to happen again. My old car was an old 90's saab and the sheet mettle on that was thick and heavy...never got a ding once just because of that. This thin sheet mettle....it dings pretty easy.:banghead:

Anyways, just needed to come here and vent. People pissin me off today. I'm so careful when I open my doors, I wish everyone else would be!

The dreaded door ding that is seemingly unavoidable. People are careless and inconsiderate when it comes to that.

I will park way out in the middle of nowhere to avoid them. However, one time after leaving my car parked hundreds of feet from anyone else, I came out to find somebody parked their car right next to mine - just to be an a$$hole. I swore as I walked back towards my car that if I found one ding from them, I would go totally apeshit on their vehicle. I circled around checking twice to make sure, and fortunately there was nothing - lucky for them.

I feel your pain. When I first bought my 06 Si some stupid ***** flung her door open full force right into my door as I was sitting in the damn car! They offer the body moldings that go on the doors of the car though. They are absolute lifesavers. Hubby and I had them on our Accord and they saved is hundreds in repairs from door dings. They blend in with the body and aren't ugly at all. College Hills Honda has them and you can order them in the color of you car.

Is it me, or is the sheet metal on cars getting thinner and thinner. Yesterday I was looking down the side of my car in the light, (checking for dings since I had to park next to someone in a parking lot) and the doors appeared to be slightly rippled. Not too bad looking, but it was noticible in the light.

I think they are for the reason that a car that crumples in an accident absorbs more of the shock of the impact thus making it safer for the people inside. I never noticed rippling in the metal itself but every car I've seen (even with a 6 figure price tag) has massive amounts of orange peel.

I just saw somebody post a few weeks ago that their Civic got all dinged up by hail, when other cars (nearby) didn't get one dent.

This is one of the biggest reason I hate most people..... There is zero respect for anyone or there property..

Like KennyGS I like to park far away and it's always funny and annoying when I come out and some asshat has parked right next to me....

i know right? there has got to be something in the DSM about this serious mental disorder. My social-worker mom calls them "oppositionally defiant"

IE: OH YOURE TRYING TO PARK FAR AWAY FROM EVERYONE? IM GONNA PARK RIGHT NEXT TO YOU THATLL SHOW YOU

These people, as you might guess, don't get very far in life.

Yeah i remember reading about some old BRE Datsun roadsters that had such thin sheet metal that it was like tinfoil in some places. The technicians would joke about being able to find their own finger prints in the stuff. Anything to make their race car that much lighter I guess! I'm sure the lightness is as much about fuel efficiency as saving money on sheet metal for these Hondas though.

Anyways, thanks for sharing your stories. i feel better that everyone has experienced this stuff. I'm really considering the molding now. It doesn't change the look that much

The moldings are the best way to go. They are $150 I think (unless prices changed) and easy to replace if they get really banged up. Much easier than PDR or having to bondo a dent

I don't have them on the Civic yet but here's a picture of them on our last car:
