Refreshed CR-Z To Get More Power
Honda says the power of both the petrol engine an electric motor has been increased "without comprising fuel economy or increasing exhaust emission". The Japanese automaker didn't reveal how much more power was gained from the tweaked hybrid drivetrain. In the current model, the 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline unit with Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) produces a maximum output of 122hp and peak torque of 128 lb-ft (173Nm).

Despite Honda's recent announcement that the facelifted version of the CR-Z compact sports hybrid would make its premiere at the Paris Auto Show, the Japanese automaker pulled a fast one by unveiling the new car at the Indonesia International Motor Show in Jakarta today.
External changes include a redesigned front grille, which loses its vertical bars, revised front bumper, HID headlamps with LED daytime running lights, new fog lamps, reshaped door mirrors and rear diffuser, LED rear lights and new 17-inch alloy wheels.
Since the show car’s doors were locked, the only visible change in the cabin are the two-tone red and fabric for the seats. One of the criticisms applied to the Compact Renaissance Zero (which is what CR-Z stands for) was that its hybrid powertrain lacked the oomph expected from a sports car. The total combined output for the original CR-Z hybrid powertrain was 122HP with a peak torque 173 Nm (128 lb-ft). The hybrid model clearly placed an emphasis on fuel economy, with the car feeling barely lively only in the Sport setting, adequate in the Normal and…well, let's just say not quite fast in the ECON mode.
According to PaulTan, that the revised CR-Z now delivers 134HP and 190 Nm (140.1 lb-ft) of torque for the six-speed manual model and 133HP and 172 Nm (126.8 lb-ft) respectively for the CVT-equipped variant. Perhaps more interesting is the addition of a new Plus Sport System that is activated through an S+ button on the dash and more than likely, makes the hybrid powertrain sacrifice some of its “green” credentials in favor of extra performance. More info will be released at the Paris Auto show.

CR-Z Shown At Paris Auto Show
The redesigned CR-Z will go on sale in January 2013. It sports subtle cosmetic revisions, including a revised front grille and rear diffuser, plus two new exterior colors.The 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine received changes to the ECU and the variable valve timing system, an upgraded material for the crankshaft and an anti-vibration knock sensor. As a result, the internal-combustion engine’s power has been increased from 112Hp to 119Hp (114 to 121PS).
The CR-Z also has ditched the Nickel-metal battery in favor of a new lithium-ion unit, which ups the electrical system’s output by more than 50 percent, from 14 to 20 HP (10 to 15 kW or 14 to 20PS). Total combined output of the hybrid powertrain is up by 13HP, to 135HP (137PS) and maximum torque up by 16 Nm (11.8 lb-ft) to 190 Nm (140 lb-ft). Naturally, performance has been improved. According to Honda, the CR-Z now accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 9.0, instead of 9.7, seconds and reaches a top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph). Average consumption is 5.0 lt/100 km (56.5 mpg UK, 47 mpg US) and CO2 emissions stand at 116 g/km.

When the battery has a charge of more than 50 percent, the driver gets a boost in acceleration courtesy of the electrical system for up to 10 seconds by simply pressing the S+ button on the steering wheel.

A 144-volt lithium-ion battery pack replaces the 100.8-volt nickel-metal hydride pack in the 2012 model. That results in the power assist from the electric motor increasing from 10 kW to 15 kW. It also means an 8 horsepower bump to 130 hp, and 12 lb-ft of torque boost to 140.
Honda also had added a "Plus Sport System," which allows on-demand electric boost via a steering wheel-mounted "S+" button, which gives five seconds of increased thrust.
Despite the power boost, the CR-Z's fuel economy increases by 1 mpg in city driving with the CVT transmission, to 36/39 mpg, while it improves by 1 mpg in highway driving with the six-speed manual to 31/38 mpg.
A rearview camera and Bluetooth phone and audio connections are now standard. The 2013 CR-Z also will have a $280 price increase to $20,765, including destination charges.
