the android operating system is/runs off linux? i never knew that... lol i love android.. i tried linux in the past and hated it.. no support... :(

support for Linux is basically only in the community forums for each of the distributions (i.e., Ubuntu, Linux Mint, etc) that's about as official as it gets. Ubuntu is a great OS to run on your machine if you're just looking for something to really get your brain working though I'd say these days the developers are trying to make various distributions of Linux more user friendly in order to expand their user base.

2012 and prior do not have the backup cam. It's been said the 2013's will have it, and it'll display through the imid.

Yep. It's cool they did this for the 2013 models which made me a bit jealous. lol. But seeing here it can be done on the 2012 with add-ons so it's cool.

Yep. Back of the car picks up the worst of the worst off the road. Would be cool if the camera got a automatic cover that opens up whenever it's being used. More moving parts prone to failure so easier to clean the cover once in awhile.

I think some manufacturers have a cover that retracts when you put the car in reverse. I'm sure I saw this somewhere. My only issue with that is with the ice that we get in Canada during the winter, what would the chances be of it trying to open and the motor burning up or just breaking? It is a great idea though.
