Manual Virgin

I owned a Chevy Sonic 6 speed auto before getting this car. Haters gonna hate FWD manual cars all day every day but I wanted to give it a try. Test drove a 2013 Civic Si sedan. Went to three different Honda dealers in Phoenix, AZ. Test drove the 4 door Civic Si at the first dealer and it was pretty fun. After visiting the other two dealers made a decision to think about it for another day or two. The second Honda dealer I went to tried to hide my car keys from me after test driving my Sonic but I had my spare key in my pocket and after 10 mins of negotiating them to give me my key back I got it back. Then made a decision to buy a Honda Civic Si sedan at the third dealer I went to because they were the least pushy and had the best customer service.

Next was the decision whether to trade in the Sonic or not. Lets get to the point and honest truth first off luxury cars (Euro & Japan) cars have better resale value then american cars and following in last is Korea. The dealers were giving me various different amounts of trade values but were increasing the price of the car on top of that. My dad drives a gas guzzling astro van which cost him about $60-$80 to fill up. My dad was interested in buying my car for fuel efficiency. Told him I'll sell it to him just because at least I know it would be in good hands.

Used the money from the sell to put down towards a Honda Civic Si sedan. Had to wait an extra week because the color I wanted was still coming in on a truck. So I got to think about it more whether I was positive I wanted to buy a newer car. Got to test drive the car I got with just 4 miles on it. Rolled out the dealer with my new car last night.

I want to tell everybody that I have never drove a manual before other then the first test drive at the first dealer. After owning the car for about 2 days I have started to get used to driving in all gears and shifting. I'm still struggling with first gear and going uphill in 1st and reverse up hill. But I couldn't believe how much the driver connection is while driving a manual. No more going onto the freeway with my 6 speed auto not knowing what gear to be in. I feel like I'm part of the car and it is an experience you can't describe until you get it. I truly feel like this is my dream car. It is a 6 speed manual, four door, fun to drive slow (i'm still learning 1st gear...lol) I know a lot of people that own Honda Civic Si are big into aftermarket stuff. My car salesman had a 2012 sedan Si on coil overs, sway bar, intake, and turbo on his personal daily driver. After looking at the 2013 sedan Si car and driving it there is honestly nothing I would change about the car. It actually looks really sharp and is fun to drive.

I'm growing up where the aftermarket thing on cars I really enjoy and watching but isn't for me. Like the classic JDM stock look to keep the car looking clean. I always thought my dream car would be a stock Japanese white car in a manual. I don't know what it is but white on Japanese cars look better then anything else such as a STI, EVO, FRS, BRZ, 370Z, GTR.

Only thing left I would say is you really don't know what it is like to drive a manual car until you actually have experienced it first hand.

Welcome! :wavey:

Love the white. Any twisty roads nearby you to enjoy the great handling of your new Si?

Not yet. Only thing that would count as a twisty road would be the two different round a bouts located within a few miles of where I live. But after looking at stock Civics I'm not positive but it looks like the Si is on a different suspension set because it looks pretty low to the ground compared to a stock Civic.

For sure - more performance oriented, and if you are inclined to spend a little money, the HFP suspension makes it handle even better and lowers the stance (maybe) 3/4".

The Si is a very capable automobile.

What were they trying to pull by hiding your keys? "Oh well I can't find your keys so I guess you're going to have to buy my car if you want to drive home."

I came to the Civic from an automatic Ford Taurus so I'm in a similar boat as you. I LOVE driving with a manual transmission. I can't see myself getting another automatic until I'm old, fat, and driving a minivan around with offspring in the back (which means I've died a little inside).

I've seen dealerships pull that trick. I call it the "Let's not give him his keys back immediately" game. One place made me ask 4 times for my keys before they gave them back. They kept trying to make a deal as I was attempting to leave.

Theft. Plain and simple. I would call the police after asking a second time. If they stand in front of a door preventing you from leaving, that is kidnapping. These tactics are unacceptable and I would report them to Honda at the least.

It wasn't a honda dealer, but I had no interest in dealing with them. It was as if my keys had vanished. "We'll have to find out who has them". Meanwhile... other people are trying to get me to buy another car.

My dad used to be a mechanic at different GM dealers for about 20 years. He warned ahead of time and told me a story where a few years ago one of the car dealers said to a customer that they couldn't find their key. Then after the customer called the police and the police came into the salesroom the dealer gave the customer their keys back.

That is why I brought my spare keys just in case. I expected one of the dealers to do something stupid like that. When it happened to me I was like 'what else is new'. Had my spare key in my pocket as my ace card sort of speak in case it went any further south. Same thing happened to me though it was 'I don't know which guy has your keys.' Welcome to car shopping in America.

Driven stick since first licensed in '60 (for cars), not fat, had van in '78 (auto Dodge), 6 offspring and 6 grand-offspring, DON'T GIVE IT UP UNTIL YOU GET LAZY, or the body doesn't like it!!!

I will admit after practicing dirving stick for three days I'm starting to shift smooth out of first now. My dad had me practice where there are a bunch of hills. Practiced yesterday at a complete stop going uphill in first. Started with e-brake, then after a few tries was able to do it without even using the e-brake! Then was practicing going up hill from a complete stop in reverse! Considering the first time i drove stick was test driving two Si sedans and two different dealers this car is definitely a good car to learn how to drive manual in my opinion. Though, I had the whole concept of how to drive manual and the balancing act of clutch and gas pedal from Forza but in real life it takes about 3 days and now I'm getting pretty good. :unicorn:
