Nav. Not Switching to Night Mode

Hi,

Just got a 2013 Civic EX-L with Nav. I think the nav is supposed to automatically switch between Day and Night Mode (Day with the white screen and night with the black screen - or whatever is set in the color preferences.)

I'm wondering if I'm missing a setting as mine is always in Day mode - even at night...I have to manually switch it to night mode when I want to view it that way.

Is there something I don't have set right or ??

Thanks!

Rick

There is a sunlight sensor in the car that controls Night Mode. To my knowledge, night mode only comes on when it is dark outside and the headlights are on.
If there is excessive light being detected by the sensor even when the headlights are on, Night mode will not be enabled.

Thanks Jason...yeah that's how I assumed it should work but driving around at night it still doesn't switch. Whereas I have the headlights set to automatic and they properly come on and stay off at night and during the day. Wonder if it has something to do with the headlights being set to "automatic" as opposed to "on" or "off" ?

:yeahthat:

Check your settings on the navigation. Page 25 in your Navigation Manual talks about the Day and Night settings. They could be set incorrectly.
You might want to check and make sure you don't have anything on your front windshield potentially blocking the sensor. And it can't hurt to stop using automatic and just use ON for the headlights just to see what happens. I have never used Automatic headlights before.

Looking at the manual? That takes all the fun away from the forum! ;)

I might have the contrast set to maximum so that could be it. I'll also try setting the headlights to on and off to see if that changes it but I've quickly become a fan of them working automatically.

Will let ya know and thanks again!

Mine never did either, until I turned down my dash one click. Now it automatically switches from day to night when headlights come on. Use the knob in ur dash near directly in front of steering wheel I think. Turn it just a click down from full brightness, it won't b that noticeable as far as it being dimmer. Then ur set. Before I did this I was changing the nav myself to night mode.

OK, update for those interested...I have the contrast on the night mode of the nav. screen set one notch below the brightest and it still doesn't automatically switch to night mode. Will try it again when I next drive at night without automatic headlights active to see if it makes a difference.

it doesn't get configured thru the nav screen. use the dimmer on ur dash, like a traditional car has, the dash in front the steering wheel has two knobs, one for km/mile, one to set the brightness of the dash. the one for the brightness is on the right. jus dial it one click, ur dash will b a bit dimmer, but this will allow the nav to recognize day/night changes automatically. because it will sense when the headlights turn on.

K so I've dimmed the lights by one. Let's see if it does tonight

It should! But it's annoying in the winter cuz the sunlight is low in the morning n early evening and u can't see the navi screen. So during those times I manually turn it back to bright.
