Not only are manual transmissions awesome, they’re a theft deterrent

Although we know you didn't need another reason to continue seeking out the dwindling supply of cars with manual transmissions, we're giving you one anyways. A Florida man and woman still have their car because a pair of carjackers didn't know how to drive a stick.

Two armed men appeared at the window of a couple's car in St. Petersburg, Fl early Friday morning. After ordering the 45 year old man and his 23 year old girlfriend out of their 2007 Nissan at gunpoint, the two carjackers hopped in the car and found something they didn't expect—a stick shift.

According to the victims the two men gave up on stealing the car and fled the scene of the crime on foot. We sincerely hope these thieves are caught before they have the chance hurt anyone or figure out how to operate a standard transmission

My mom's coworker from South America knew his gf since she was a little girl. By the time she was not considered under aged, he flew her into the states.

I think he's in the fifties and the gf is 20 or 21. LOLOL.

ROUND 2!

Further proof stick shifts stop car crime

More evidence that a manual transmission is not merely a means to greater car control and a better driving experience: Like asimilar case late last month, a shift lever and clutch pedal have prevented yet another carjacking.

On Tuesday night a Denver-area woman leaving a gas station was stopped at gunpoint by a would-be car thief. After taking the woman's purse and the keys to her 2004 Audi, the perpetrator got into the car and attempted to drive off...until it became clear that he did not know how to work the transmission. The now-humiliated hoodlum chose to flee the scene rather than ask for a quick driving lesson.

The suspect was described as a white male in his early twenties. Possible identifying features include a gray hoodie, a lack of hand-foot coordination, and a tangible sense of embarrassment.
