Do you have home security cameras/system?

If so what are you using? Wireless? Hardwired? Brands? Models? Opinions? How hard was setup? Price?

I've been following a thread on another forum but just seeing what 9thCivic members have.

Thanks

I'd highly suggest running the video over cat cables versus wifi for improved quality, especially if you have multiple cameras setup. Cat cable is pretty cheap in rolls, and allows you to go over longer distances without running into video loss. I've talked to a number of people about it, and ran a cheap retail setup before. Ultimately, it's going to come down to budget. Some cameras are great in complete darkness, while others may be the best for video quality playback in daylight conditions. There are all kinds of infrared options, so it really depends on what you're wanting to record and in what lighting.

I have mine with xfinity, comes with a monthly payment but have no complaints about service. If didn't want to pay monthly I'd say go with the ur own system that comes with its on DVR and multiple cameras, one flat rate

I'm back to checking into home security cameras... Our neighborhood is fairly quiet but on Thursday there was this sketchy guy walking around when I got home from work.

A neighbor saw him walking into my neighbors backyard and knocking on doors. Like scoping the houses out..

Police came and stopped the guy but of course they couldn't arrest him just talked to him since they had nothing on him.

I'm looking at (2) wireless cameras.

Hikvision in most reviews are really highly regarded for quality in day or night. I've done a lot of research on them.

4meg resolution

Or a 3meg

There are tons of vids that show comparison for quality in day/night or megapixel resolution differences on YouTube.

Blue iris software for your PC can control them remotely, send text alerts on motion etc

8-10 cameras. Wonder how many people usually use.

I was thinking about only 2-4 cameras.

My friend has about 6, 2 on the sides, one in the front and 1 in the back. I guess it depends on how much area you want to cover, Im in a coner lot compared to him being in a regular lot, so I need the xtra view.

Ahh makes sense. I was just thinking about two front and two rear. Wasn't going to do the sides.

I have the Nestcam/Dropcam and my only complain is for history or recording I have to pay a monthly or annual fee per camera.
Is there a free recording service that doesn't require a computer to be on all the time or a DVR to be connected to the network?

I got me a DVR system from Costco I tried both Nightowl (4 cam) and Lorex (8 cam) I liked the operating system on Nightowl better but Lorex has more cameras which I'm happy I got. To me they both have decent night vision and daylight video quality isn't bad either I did the install myself takes a little trial and error trying to figure out the best angles but it's not hard with the right tools....I decided to get them after people kept stealing from my front yard and kids vandalizing my cars, this guy came in a stolen Acura got wasn't expecting all the cameras I think he was thinking of stealing my Civic, 3 days later he got caught thanks to this video being on Facebook and is still in jail
