I've gone though about an hours worth of info.......... What I'm looking for is one inch wider than what mine came with.
What I have is a wheel 16x6.5 (J) ........ tyre 205/55R16 89H
What will go on my wheel and be 1 inch wider ?

I finally found a chart that told me what I was looking for, it seems the 205 hits in the middle of a 16x6.5 wheel
A 215 is within the limits, but is bias to the limit to where it would be perfect on a 16X7, which means on a 16X6.5 it would bring the walls together ever so slightly that it would wear the tread slightly more in the middle......... That's my thinking anyway.......
Any other opinons ?

any reason for wanting to go wider? Usually most people will say you want a narrow tire for winter snow driving.
I'm not wanting to change for the winter(it's nothing down here anyway), I'm just thinking of wanting a better all season tyre brand wise, not that Conti's don't make good ones.
I like Michelin, and while I was looking though some options it came to mind that a little wider might be an option as well, I'm not a wide tyre nut in the 1st place but it's been a long time since I bought tyres for a car. When I bought my Jeep they were not for me for a lot of reasons, then it was just a cheap tyre too small in every direction.
It seems from reading on this forum ppl are always changing their tyres, so I thought maybe I could get some info on how to go when the time comes to change them(I don't see me changing them now, but in the future). I have a Coupe file I write most things I do or want to do with it. Then when the time comes I won't be rushed into something at the last minute.
Going wider is why I asked, because I'm not sure if wider on this car is a good thing either.......... But anyone that has any ideas on it plz feel free to chime in.

So are you really shopping for an all season tire/summer tire/performance...? This thread is more about the advantage of winter tires over the stock all seasons in snow & ice. We can move some posts around to a new thread in a few seconds if it makes more sense. A number of people have tire experience here. Some have a lot of high performance tire experience, experince with winter tires...etc. a lot of people go wider rims/tires to make the wheels sit more flush to the fenders. It's more of an aesthetic thing. Some go wider for grip/performance. Kind of depends on how you're driving it or what your goals are. Just know that the wider you go, the more you'll hurt mpg.

The only reason I'd want to go wider is for better grip/handling.......... I'm fine with you moving it....... I did a search for "tires" and this was the only place it gave me.
Good point on mpg, that did come to mind.

etf and some others have Continental ExtremeContact DW and he seems to be very happy with them. They have one of the highest ratings among tires in the 205/55/16 size.

If you look at tirerack or other sites, you'll see a rating: "UTQG". The lower that #, the faster the tires will wear. Usually it's going to correspond to how sticky the tires are. Stickier tires in theory will have a lower #. Be aware that the number provided is solely for that company tire line. You can't compare a michelin UTQG # to that of Goodyear or whatever brand. You can only compare the number within the same manufacturer.

Beast info from the webby.

Getting a better tire in the same size will yield pretty good results.

Hey Monk, are you getting new wheels?

Check out the tire review: "Monsters of Grip" from Car and Driver. Top tire is Michelin for $170, a pilot...but a summer tire that many use year 'round. That's my next tire.

That top tyre is "USED" at 170........

That was the price quoted in the article and later confirmed (since i'm in the market) by America's Tire and Costco for the stock 225/45/17 i believe. (2012 SI Coupe)

Tirerack is a good place, though. I've used them. The Conti might be best bang for the buck... but if you can snag that Pilot for $140, by all means do it. Or read the reviews on it... Then do it.
