So, recently I had my OEM civic Si wheels put on my girlfriends car, and I put my Rotas on mine. My dealership did all the work (mounted tires, swapped TPMS, tire rotation) everything. Well my TPMS light keeps showing up at random times. My girlfriends civic also did the same. Hers was reprogrammed and now works fine. Mine was also reprogrammed the same day, but its been off and on all week. Today I went to my dealership, they say probably one of my sensors is bad and it will cost me $80-$100 to fix.
Isn't this covered under warranty?
Does this happen normally on a car that's 4 months old ?
My dealership does all the work so did they mess up my sensors??
What should I do??

TPMS sensors should be covered unless the dealer can prove the sensors were broken elsewhere, but as you said they do all the work on your car, or if they try classifying the issue as "wear and tear." Nonetheless, TPMS sensors should not "die" within four months.

I agree that it should be covered. The gray area on coverage is the dealer submitting a warranty claim through Honda with sensors that are not installed on factory wheels.

Lovely. So now he's have to revert back to oem's to have it go easier. Either way there will be expense. Reverting back to oem's to have it covered....or buying replacement sensors and having them reprogrammed.

they should have warned him about that before the change over about non factory wheels so if they never told you about it and they agrred to do it anyway you should be fine .
just make sure you tell them that no1 brought that to your attention plus i dont see what an after market rim should do with a factory tpms sensor but they try to always make a stink about after market stuff so they dont have to cover it my dealership knows better than to come to me with any of that cr*p beacuse they know i know about cars lol ... you just gotta hold your ground and dont BREAK because once you do they got you for good.

Thanks everyone. I didn't go back this morning to let them look at it. I agree with everyone that it should fall under 3yr/36k mile warranty. I work at a shop for a major retailer, Best Buy/ Geek Squad, as an installer. If something goes wrong with a product that I've installed in a customers car, I go 110% mode to help the customer. If I can't prove it's something by the manufacturer product, we'd rather keep the customers business rather than say tough doo-doo.

I doubt that you've got a faulty sensor - it happens but not often. The Rotas should not be an issue - if the TPMS light went out after sensor registration then all should be well. Its likely related to the tires being swapped on the rims. Now here's what I've seen... I've seen where the sensor has been sheared off from the aluminum stem cleanly - likely cracked during the tire swap then torn off by the rotational force as the wheel spins... the result? A functioning sensor that is rolling around inside the tire - it reads and transmits - but can position itself so that the signal can not always be read. If that's the case, the dealer (if they put the rims on) should replace it under shop policy...if they are honest.

A 4-month-old car with dealer-installed accessories, aftermarket or otherwise, should not have any components failing that are outside of what the dealership can fix. I don't care how they fix it, they need to fix it.

Update--
It was fixed. The guy told me it might've been caused by my radar detector. (Yeah right, I'm not that stupid). But it was covered under warranty and I'm a happy customer.
