9thcivic Tail of the Dragon Part II: Official Information and Attendee Thread

And remember, the Dragon is not the only attraction down there....

The Dragon is a wreck. There was a brutal downpour on the way in. Leaves from the trees flooded the road. Couldn't actually see the road. Then, it appears, they mowed the grass earlier today in several areas. Maybe yesterday. It must have been a LOT of grass because the resulting debris almost completely covered the right lane coming in for 5 - 7 miles. More such "showers" are expected over the next few days, meaning more mess. If they don't actively clear the road I doubt whether the Dragon is drive-able the way most are used to. Maybe this is typical... but if the situation persists maybe we should remain open to a small change in our itinerary. Maybe a large change, i don't know.

The rain didn't bother me. The leaves and the grass didn't bother me either...although going 25/30 (MAX) on the road of my dreams caught me off-guard. My brother, tough guy that he is, is literally shaking after the drive in... but don't tell him I told you! (Hopefully my driving wasn't that bad) I'm glad most of you are coming tomorrow or Thursday. Come during the day if you can, because coming at night without lane visibility or much traction is a special challenge.

The bottom line is that I'm more than a little worried that the coming weather forecast and current road conditions have made this field "unplayable".

This is what I imagine you thought you were seeing:

Just waiting for the Dr's ok to leave. I should know something by 1030AM. That would put me there around 3PM.

There's a slight chance of storms the next few days, with clearing by Friday, I think you're getting too worried over this, I drove the dragon in the rain several times, and 30mph is about the tops one can do safely.

It's overcast today but dry. Yes, more showers are on the way... but it's not the rain, it's the aftermath of its destruction. The amount of leaves on the road is incredible. So unless they clean off the Dragon it's very slippery - especially for bikes. 30mph would be tops. My average speed was under 17/18...but again, it was raining cats and dogs, a situation unlikely to happen on the weekend.

I'll check the Skyway and other areas today. There should still be plenty of areas to enjoy -- you guys will know them better than anybody.

This shouldn't dissuade anybody from coming... unless you're only goal is to romp the Dragon. Anyway, in the interest of full disclosure, I thought the mess here was worth a mention. Thanks for letting me vent!

I would imagine you get enough bikers out there that the leaves will clear up in no time. Could make for some awesome video with leaves blowing everywhere as the bikers drive through.

2007 Civic Si sedan
1990 BMW 325is, missing most non used parts to bring the weight down. Sort of track prepped, but not completely.

Yeah, didn't think of that. Leaves are soaked at the moment... but later, yes. I saw 3 bikes on the Dragon last night.... 2 of them were parked, riders waiting it out under a tree. The other one was going maybe 10mph, and pulled over so i could whiz by him at 17mph. There were several sections where visibility was 15/20 feet.
The good part? The bridge crew took the night off.

But heck, by the time you get here it'll be sunny, clear skies and 80 degrees. Then you'll be calling the guys in white jackets to haul me away.
