Trailers have really strong beams.
That accident caused a wild domino effect. All highways within 15mile radius were affected. I was caught in traffic on my way to work.
Beams yes. Roll-up doors no. I would have expected the cab to be crunched at the bottom and the rest of it collapsing into the trailer.
Bridges are the worst locations for accidents due to a general lack of reroute options. Anything in/out of NYC would be a disaster.
The other thing with 18 wheelers is the cabs are made of fiberglass and don't stand up well to accidents the frames are stronger so a rear end accident can cause a accident like this because the trailers are super strong..
