did I get ripped off on extended warranty?

After a pretty crappy experience with my 8th Gen si, I decided to give honda one more chance and got my wife a 14 ex. My fa5 was the worst honda I've ever owned.

The extended bumper to bumper warranty retails for 2700, which is insane. I ended up paying 1600 for a 7/84 warranty. I'm starting to have second thoughts, though.

First off, I don't think I got that great of a price at all. I should have researched before hand, but this time I stupidly didn't do my homework.

Secondly, my wife will maybe drive 8-10 miles a year max. She will probably be around 65-70k miles when the warranty expires in 7 years. I just don't know, but it seems like I dropped the ball on this one.

If I were to get a warranty at 35k miles, the dealer said it would be 3000. I don't believe that, though.

Any insight for my problem? Thanks guys.
 
If I do decide to cancel it, do I have to go back to the dealer? They added it into my car loan. I don't care if my payment stays the same as long as they take the 1600 off of the total amount I owe.
 
Yes....you will have to go back to the dealership to cancel. I have done it before.....

So you are paying $1600 for a 4yr/48k mile bumper to bumper warranty. Equates to $400 a year. Honestly, it is ultimately up to you if you think it's worth it. I say 4yr/48k miles since all cars come with 3yr/36k miles.


I am pretty sure you can find them cheaper, maybe around $1000 depending on which one you choose.....try sending your info to http://www.saccuccihondacare.com/index.php or http://www.curryhondacare.com/ , maybe Bernardi Honda also. They seem to be the biggest "retailers" of HondaCare warranties.


One question for ya.....is it a Honda extended warranty or a 3rd party? On my old 2013 Accord, I bought an extended warranty from the dealership, thinking it was a HondaCare ext warranty. Turned out it was a 3rd party, which after reading the fine print on the contract I received, it would have been a huge headache to get any warranty work completed. After 4-5 weeks I received my money back, which way applied directly to my loan on the car.
 
It's a 3rd party warranty backed by toyota. I read every word of it, and it is indeed legit. You can even get work performed at any shop you want, doesn't have to be a dealer.

I'm sure the coverage is fine, but I'm just worried I'm paying way too much for it.
 
Does your car have navigation? I'd agree with Nomar's comments above. I'd want the hondacare warranty, not a 3rd party.

If you have time and not too worried about sending your contact info to the dealers I mentioned, then it wouldn't hurt to see what price they give you for HondaCare. If I remember back to the days of my Accord, I think other Accord owners were paying anywhere from $800-$1200 for a HondaCare ext warranty.

No I don't have navigation. The warranty I have is actually very stout. I'm not worried one bit on the coverage, just the fact I paid hundreds too much.

Is there any way I can cancel by phone or do I have to go sit down with some slippery finance guy while he tries to keep his commission?

You have to fill out paperwork to cancel and get a refund......at least that's what I had to do.
 
I didnt get extended warranty for my 12 Si and i doubt ill need it, had got it for my 14 toyota tacoma and canceled it the very next day the guy at the finance wasnt happy in fact he got very rude like as if he has two different personalities but i didnt care its not like ill see his face ever again. Car comes with 60k mile poer train warranty which includes the clutch mine got replaced at around 38k. Extended warranty dont cover alot of things that may go wrong so in my opinion its a waste of money
 
You can piss finance guys off real fast when you tell them you wont accept his 3.59% 3rd party finance and get 0.9% through Honda that the salesman had mentioned Honda was doing plus deny all ext warranty's like i did. Major attitude change from begging to end, i just laughed lol but as far as extended warranties go if you can find similar coverage for less through Honda then go for it, jump the hoops. Being a mechanic i don't go for extended warranties since the basics usually cover any defects that arise early plus I'm cheap lol. I did however get a wheel/tire warranty on my previous kia forte since it covered rim damage along with tire but still felt it was half worthless.
 
I'm 100 percent going to cancel my warranty. It's thru toyota and is called continuous care platinum.

I REALLY hope I can cancel it over the phone and they (toyota) can apply the money towards my loan. Do I have to go in to the dealer again to cancel it? Both the dealer and warranty company are closed today. I just want to know before tomorrow morning when I call.

Thanks. I guess I missed that. Hopefully the Toyota warranty is different from honda care.

What about the folks who live several hours from the dealer? There has to be a way to do it without going in..
 
So I looked thru the warranty contract like I should have done initially.

It said for a refund to go back to the original dealer. But in the very next line it says if that is not possible you can do it by mail. Hard to tell from that wording if I have a choice or not. Wonder if I could just say I don't have time to go bsck to the dealer and could I do it by mail. Thoughts?
 
Prob take 10 times longer trying to get it resolved by mail. Give it a shot if you don't care how long it takes.

I'm not in a rush as long as it gets cancelled. It will just go towards my total owed, so it's not like I am waiting for a check to be sent my way. Thanks for the replies

See if there is a deadline to get 100% of your cost back. I believe my old one was that after 60 days of purchase it would be a pro-rated refund and not a 100% refund.

My refund paperwork was lost at the dealership and I had to prove when I went in to the dealership asking to cancel the ext warranty. Luckily I had a signed cancelation form that was dated. My dealership tried to screw me out of the full refund amount.

Do yourself a favor and go down to the dealership to cancel and get something in writing stating that your canceling on what date. Keep copies....
