im all about ignoring difficult situations.

another shitty situation is some in my small town and around us have been protesting to open small businesses but id say 99% of the people protesting on the street in tight groups arent wearing masks which defeats the entire purpose.

:rotfl:

I'll patiently wait for your side
Everybody should have been wearing masks and socially distancing from the start.

This didn't happen to the full extent it should have...for many reasons...ignorance, propaganda, infantile president, poor leadership all around, etc.

Hence, never flattening the curve and spreading the disease.

Not to mention those that refuse to get the vaccine or those that get it thinking they no longer need to wear a mask.

Sadly, people in US society have become entirely focused on individual personal freedoms, mistakenly, at the expense of potential harm to others. YOUR freedom ends when it endangers someone else's life.

Bottom line...wear a goddamn mask until we manage to get to s high enough vaccination rate

I think I'm confused at why some people are so up at arms about why wearing a mask is an affront to their freedom. Its the mechanism for any semblance of control that we have had till the EUAs on the vaccines. I've been able to get a haircut a couple times now from a barber shop that has figured out how to open with proper precautions in place. My brother owns one of the few small counter service restaurants that has managed to maintain business by all employees and customers wearing masks. Im baffled by Texas and other places decisions to lift mandates and declare they've achieved herd immunity (still think thats one of Abbot's ploys to distract from the winter storm)

We're already seeing numbers that indicate we will never achieve herd immunity because of the portion of the population that refuses to vaccinate. If you don't want to vaccinate I'm fine with that, but its a lot of the same people who also refuse to wear a mask. We are never going to be 100% back to the way things were before, but we are getting exponentially longer from reaching the new normal the more people keep refusing to take even simple precautions to help those around them. The longer this virus gets to bounce around person to person the more chances it gets to mutate and turn into something worse that we cant keep control of.

I have trouble with the self centered mentality of "**** you all i wont wear a mask" because thats what it is. Its a simple act that has the potential to help the situation and requires minimal effort but some people think its too much to ask.

We're not so different, you and I. I just get off when mandates encroach on somebodies livelihood i.e people out of a job and so on

if people were wearing a mask we could have kept more open, fewer people would have lost their jobs. The lockdowns were an attempt to gain control of the situation but as always, too many people decided it didnt apply to them and kept the spread going

If this country hasn't had such a stupid fixation with the Red Scare and Communism/Socialism = bad for 40+ years, we could have been more focused on lives on the well-being of those in our society as opposed to economics/profits/jobs/livelihoods.

JFC, all our infrastructure, pre-college education, social security, unemployment, medicare/caid, and disability (among MANY other things/programs) are already based on socialistic principles.

I agree but I figured it would be like talking about trump on here. I think webby told me not to. Lol.
If I ever said something like that it had to be sarcastically? I'm fine with people talking about pretty much whatever, as long as they're doing it in a respectful way towards one another. Maybe I said, "oh you don't want to talk about trump here" as a joke since it's usually a hot button topic? I just know how divided most people are on the political spectrum, and it's a shame that the whole mask/vaccine/pandemic whatever turned into such a political thing, when it should have been a medical topic. The virus doesn't care about your political stance, and it'll surely continue to mutate over and over again as this inevitably drags on further and further. The US is showing around 27% of the population being fully vaccinated at this point. We are so far away from seeing the end, but I know people are seeing warmer weather and wanting to get out of the house and do things. I would not be surprised to see another swing in increased case numbers into the summer. Long story short, it's not that difficult to put a mask over your face if you're not going to get a vaccine & you're wanting to be out in public.

What I hate the most is the argument against wearing one is that people feel as if they can't breathe while wearing a mask

Doctors and nurses wear masks for hours and hours on end (sometimes 8+) while performing surgery. If they can do it, so can the vast majority of the rest of the population...aside from a legitimate medical condition.

and depending on the surgery it may be a n95 mask they're wearing for those periods, which make a tight seal all around their face. Much worse than a surgical mask or cotton mask. I get that masks can get hot if worn for long periods, but it's not the end of the world.

I never understood that argument. There were so many people that would take these very minor inconveniences and blow them way out of proportion to try to make a moot point

I could really go for a Frosty myself. I have a chocolate Jr Frosty in the freezer right now. Might do that with some crushed up peanut m&ms in it :spaz:
That actually sounds amazing. I'd get a spoon of peanut butter and add'em to your recipe next time I get my Frosty. Killer idea !
