Official 'What did you do to your car today?' Thread

yea the east coast went from freeze warning to 80s in the span of 24 hrs, its been obnoxious

so @bootyluvr time to trade in for a gently used ridgeline?

84 degrees out!?!?

Yes it was warmer on Monday. Closer to 90*

Yup... Crazy weather
57* on Saturday -> 84* Sunday -> 90* Monday
Then 88* tomorrow -> 75* Friday -> Then the rain/cool down to 56* on Saturday and 64* on Sunday

I did just hit 109k on the Accord but I'm not in a hurry to get rid of it yet.

Did a valve cover replacement this past weekend. Not sure I completely solved my oil leak issue but it was a cheap start. Next, I think it’ll be the front timing cover that will have to be resealed (so, I might be buying myself into a timing service if I’m going to do all that work).
Just getting started:

Almost done:

All finished:

This has been the most invasive bit of maintenance I’ve had to do with this car since owning it. Very minor bit of work overall but it’s starting to show age after 155k miles. Maybe next time I’ll do a wrinkle red coating on the valve cover since those add +10hp.

Not sure who remembers this fiasco from a few months ago regarding the random loss of Power Steering I had. Weird thing is, I have not had any reoccurrences since this event. Other than replacing the tires and doing maintenance, no changes have been made to the car either (same battery as before, during, and after the event).

Not really sure where to put this question; so, I figured a post about random stuff would be the best place.

Anyhow, driving my Civic into work this morning; stopped for gas on the way, maybe about 10mins from my house along my 50min commute. When I started the car back up, I had no power steering (warning on the dash and all). Popped the hood, looked for obvious signs of failure like loss of the drive belt or low fluid level (thinking the car had a hydraulic system), not finding these (or perhaps I missed them) I surmised that the power steering system is probably electric. So, what do you do with electrical components that randomly fail? You turn them off and then back on and check again. So, after restarting the car, same problem, no power steering. I finished my commute to work and jump on here with the few minutes I had to spare. This was my first issue having any problems with the power steering system. Unfortunately, I'm a little pressed for time this week and next so I did a quick look here on the forums and the only thing folks mentioned were battery issues (at my quick 5min look).

So, I'm curious, has anyone else encountered a random loss of power steering? And, if so, what is the proper fix, just replace the car's battery?

Well, I ran codes a few months ago, cleared them, and rescanned. These are persistent codes (current faults); I just checked them again, they're still current.

Just curious if anyone else has run into this before with their car and what was done to fix it (I did search a bit but not much came up, mostly battery issues which we discussed back in April).

Not sure if this is helpful, but I saw this from a s2000 Honda -

Interesting. This is looking more and more like a 'don't funk with it until it's a problem' type of thing. Lots of stuff to tear down to clear a DTC that isn't showing a light on the dash nor malfunctioning.
