This car was painted about 15 years ago and it was definitely in need of a good polish after years of washing and dusting off. The owner is actually and old friend from high school who lived up the street from me when he was restoring it...I can still remember when he brought it back from the paint shop....always loved this year Vette and Candy Red is my all time favorite color...I was very excited to work on this car! :)

Process:

Wash - Megs Hyper Wash, 2BM, Lambs wool mit
Tires - OPC and Tuf-Shine brush (owner wanted no dressing)
Wheels - OPC and separate wash mit
Surface prep - Speedy prep towel, Glide for lube
Paint correction - FG400 on the Rupes 21 with Megs MF Finishing pads followed by HD Polish on the Rupes. Some areas required an extra pass with FG400.
Pant Protection - Blackfire Wet Diamond
Chrome - Mothers Chrome Polish
Glass - Megs D120

The metallic in the color made it hard to get good pictures...

Thanks for the car porn Rasky! Your work is incomparable. Both cars look so good Id swear you photoshopped the sun reflections.

2013 Camaro ZL1, major paint correction: Rasky's Auto Detailing

This car was brought to me last minute in an attempt to fix the damage by the body shop. Normally I don't take on work during the week but this was for a friend so I went ahead and took it on. As you can see from the pictures there was heavy swirling, dust nibs, sanding marks, RIDS, and water spots. I had originally planned to do an extensive write up on this car but it turned out to be very challenging, time consuming with many late nights. To be honest, I had thought about calling my buddy up and telling him to come get it by the second or 3rd night! This was one of the most challenging paints I had worked on in a long time (repainted areas) and it really tested my patience. Eventually I found a combo that worked well but by that time all my enthusiasm for documenting the car went out the window the first night. To top it off the owner showed up as I was finishing the car and he was in a bit of a hurry...unfortunately this meant little time for after pics.

Before pics

OEM painted areas were not to bad but had several RIDS

Water spots on the CF scoop did not come off with a water spot remover and required polishing.

50/50 of the water spots

Repainted panels had lots of dust nibs in them...I hit them lightly with 1500 to better capture them in the pics....further sanding was done to remove them.

All sanded down with 1500/3000

Correction was done with various products as the repainted panels responded differently than the OEM panels. The following products/tools were used after testing lots of different pads and polishes...FG400, D300, M101, Sonax PF, HD Polish, Opt Hyper Polish, Rupes 21, G110v2, Rupes LHR75, Flex PE 14.

No direct light pictures, sorry. :(

Beautiful car. Those water spots looked very bad.

The owner brought the car right from the dealer to a custom stereo shop to have some Audio work done as well as some cosmetic stuff...it had 200 miles on it!!! For whatever reason when they removed the emblems from the front the fenders and the bow-tie from the back, the paint peeled up! To top it off some shelf fell and hit the rear bumper cover and the body shop must have done something to the front cover as they painted that too. So both bumper covers and front fenders were repainted. There was a lot of other damage not pictured, but out of respect for the owner I won't be posting those.

The water spots are a prime example of what happens when you rinse a car off with ground water and let it drip dry in the sun! Why the body shop did this is beyond me!

Last one for today... ;)

This car belongs to a good client of mine and which was purchased used last year by his father. They were looking to bring the paint back to life and give it some long term protection. As you can see from the pictures there was a good amount of swirls and a few RIDS that needed to be taken care of.

Process:

Wash - Megs Hyper Wash, 2BM, Lambs wool mit
Tires - OPC and Tuf-Shine brush, Hyper Dressing 3:1
Wheels - Sonax FE with various brushes and wash mit, Wheels removed and both faces and barrels were coated with Opti-Coat Pro
Surface prep - Speedy prep towel, Glide for lube
Decon - IronX and Tarminator
Paint correction - HD Adapt beta polish on the Rupes 21 with Megs MF polishing pads followed by HD Polish with yellow Rupes pads.
Coating Prep - Eraser and IPA wipe down
Glass - Clayed, polished with Hyper Polish, IPA wipe down coated with Opti-Glass Pro
Coating - Applied with CarPro micro suede and foam block applicator

Swirls!

Few specs of white road paint.

Deep scratch on the top of the rear bumper cover...this required some wet sanding

Removed washer heads

50/50 after HD Adapt!!! Love this stuff!

and then the owners sit down in a chair and just stare at it
