Squiggy and Spidergirl's Annual Halloween Movie Fest!

Day 3: (1925) Phantom of the Opera
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0016220/

Universal wanted The Phantom's face to be a complete surprise during the film, so no photographs of Lon Chaney in makeup were published or seen anywhere before the film opened in theaters. Chaney had some fun with it - summoning the cameraman to his dressing room to test out his scare appeal in full makeup. In addition, Mary Philbin's (who plays Christine Daae) reaction during the unmasking scene is genuine.

This is my favorite musical of all time, so it's always great to go back and watch the original version. <3

Day 5: (1932) Freaks
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0022913/

The original version of the film ran over 90 minutes but was cut by nearly a third due to the reactions it provoked. The production chief couldn't cancel the world premier, so this is the only venue at which the uncut version played. It was wildly successful once word got out that it would soon be censored. The extra footage is now presumed lost.

Lee has seen this one before, but not me. I'd always heard great things about it but, after watching, I was expecting more after the hype. I can see how back in the 30s people would be outraged, I suppose. I was surprised to find out that the story is really just a normal love story instead of about the performers themselves.

Day 6: (1932) Island of Lost Souls
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0024188/

An obsessed scientist conducts profane experiments in evolution, eventually establishing himself as the self-styled demigod to a race of mutated, half-human abominations.

Meh. Not impressed. Those souls can just stay lost...

prob missing a ton of others. I think it'd be hard to narrow to 3 unless you were trying to avoid things you'd seen

Ideally, we try to avoid things we've seen. There were a few decades that were very hard to narrow down. For the 80s, 90s, and 00s, 2 out of 3 movies are ones we've seen because they are too good to pass up. You'll just have to wait to find out which ones. ;)

Day 8: (1942) Cat People
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0034587/

An American man marries a Serbian immigrant who fears that she will turn into the cat person of her homeland's fables if they are intimate together.

This one was actually pretty decent. The main actress was enjoyable to watch. I would love to see a modern remake of this.

Day 9: (1945) Dead of Night
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0037635/

Three cosmolgists developed the Steady State theory of the universe, an alternative to the Big Bang, after seeing this movie. They said that the circular nature of the plot inspired the theory.

This is probably my favorite so far. The multiple story lines kept me intrigued and engaged trying to figure out what was going on throughout the whole movie.

better than killer nerd? Tell me it's on your list for the 1990's :popcornbig:

No save yourself from torture and avoid watching it. See above

She doesn't like comedy horror as it is, but we are running out of themes that don't result in watching a ton of movies we have already seen.

I'm sure we can come up with many more themes, but we'll definitely run into repeats. comedy horror, vampires, zombies, clowns (ugh), just sequels (I mean, why not?!), body horror, movies centered around animals/fish/etc. - the list goes on!

you need to dump a bunch of names into a fish bowl and randomly draw. You could have a random year where anything goes
