Anyone know if they make a quick release 20mm through axle? or something like it? I have seen 10mm ones but that is it. Reason I ask is due to the rook rack and using a fork mount tray. They make adapter for them but it would be a pain to unscrew the axle to remove the front wheel and them screw it back in later on. Maybe i have to get a different tray?

Which rack are you running? I think there are 20mm through fork mounts but you would still have to secure the axle by screwing it in tight. I know that hurricane components made a device called the fork up that would bolt to a 20mm axle and have a regular 9mm quick release skewer so you could put it on a rack fast and easy.

this place. Your local bike shop should be able to order you one if you don't find one online somewhere. The image on the main page of the gray fox fork is exactly what you would need. You still have to secure the new mount to the 20mm axle with bolts. sort of a pain but I don't know of any QR style 20mm through axles. There are newer 20mm designs that are QR-ish but it requires a whole new fork.


You could try the qr20 part they have but as far as I know they only worked with Marzocchi forks. Better off using the one you know will work and not losing your bike down the highway at 70+

I have a Thule rack with a Rockymount tray with locking skewer. That fork up looks like the Thule "adapter" but that would still need the axle to be removed, remove the wheel, place the fork up in place, slide the axle back on the fork and the fork up.

I was hoping there was a QR that would simplify things.

Looks to be about $20. Cheap enough to give it a try.

Bought the chain and the Thule 20mm axle adaptor for the rack. Should be good to go for hitting some trails tomorrow if the weather holds up. Prob gong to do a paved ride tonight to check out the brakes and shake of the combwebs, lol

Ugh....not shifting. Move the shifter lever and the wire barely/ doesn't move. Brakes seem like they are always on. I had to stick a screwdriver in between the pads to slip the brake disc in to fit the wheels on. Also, one on the fork on the front susp can be turned left to right a little bit while the other doesn't move left to right at all.

The cable is corroded inside of the housing somewhere. Common problem. Either buy a new cable and housing. $15-20. Or.... every spot that the black housing stops on the frame and you can see bare wire, pull the cable stops out and apply some type of lube to the cable and work the lube into the inside of the housing. Especially for your rear derailleur and that last piece of housing there. That's the most common spot for dirt to get in and F it all up.

Also over time the thick grease they put inside the shifter itself gets sticky instead of slide-y. ( is that a word?) You can spray WD-40 inside the shifter from where the cable goes in and work that around inside the shifter by going all the way up and down the cogset a few times and spraying more.


Between those two things, the shifting should improve a lot. Again these are both temporary fixes for replacing the cable and housing but they do last quite a while. Try em and let me know how it goes.

Oh The brake....


Once you remove the wheel, if you hit the lever, for disc brakes, the caliper closes and does not reset. You will have to reset the pads with a screwdriver, standard not philips!!, like you did. Normal occurance.

As far as the fork..... just based on age I think that thing needs to go. Just ride it till it completely craps out on you. They were awesome but it is just dated like windows 98. Doesn't mean it wasn't awesome or doesn't work. Just limited and dated.

What do you mean by the housing on the shifter issue. Do you mean the place where the shift levers are? I openned that up and it seemed the lube in there was thick. Doesn't seem to click into each gear.

Ah, yeah it's hard to explain over the internets but, the cables on your bike have a black hard covering over them in some spots. If you are lucky it runs the whole way from the shifter to the derailleur. If you release the cable tension you should be able to slide the black housing out of the holder spots on the frame. Try lubing the cable and sliding the housing around so that the lube works its way into the housing.

For the shifter, take the section of black stuff that starts at the shifter and try to pop it out of its spot on the frame. Then you can slide the housing away from the shifter and squirt some stuff inside the shifter itself through the hole where the cable goes in.

Pull gently on the cable and shift up and down a few clicks. The light pulling is just to the cable won't get tangled up inside.

I took the covers off the shifter and sprayed them with WD40, helped a good bit. Sprayed inside the the cables too, which helped alot also. I am able to shift into 7 of the 9 gears but the lever you use to shift down has to be manually brought back once you push it in. Same thing with the left shifter lever. They basically need to be fixed or prob just replaced.

The front brake is super grippy and the rear not so much. Might be the pads.....

Front susp is prob done for( I think ). I squeeze on the front brake and the susp with compress 4-6 inches, lol. With my lack of knowledge I think that is not supposed to happen. I know it will compress a little but I don't think it should go down that much.



I went riding today on the hard tail and friggin ate it on the first tiny jump, lol. Went over the bars and messed up the shifter indicator thing on both shifters.
