2012 Civic Si Rev Hang - Software Update

it is possible that the newest built vehicles are having the software implemented while being produced. A civic with a build date of oct 2011 as spider mentioned, should not have the latest software.

yes, and I can understand them being skeptical when someone off the street is telling them there is a software update.

So they denied to hook it up and check in front of me saying that the tech already verified the rev is within spec... not what I asked but they refused to hook it up in front of me

agreed, but they are there to provide service to us, as the customer, who paid for the vehicle.
if it is my request to have it hooked up in front of me, they should oblidge, due to the track record dealerships have in the past and their reputation for shafting people
(that second part is also in reference to what spider said)

print out the 1st post of this story, and ask to talk to the tech doing an oil change or whatever on the car. Hand him the printout, and explain that you'd like him to hook it up. Or, post up where you're from, and maybe someone local can tell you a dealership that already updated their car (so they'd obviously be aware of the update).

The closest dealership is at least an hour away and requires a trip on a ferry...

So I answered my own question .

Using torque app on android and a Bluetooth dongle you can read the ecu software..

As you see mine is on X0A030 and they told me it was the lastest.. back to the deal ship I go

A software update is now available for 2012 Honda Civic Si vehicles in the US. You need to take your vehicle to your nearest dealership to have the update done.

"Recommended Program Update X0A050"

The dealership will need to connect their MVCI tester to your car and will provide a trouble code reading "PGM-FI". The software update Program is supposed to greatly help/remove the rev hang.

"Rev Hang" is described as the throttle floating/hanging after you've put the clutch in/stopped pushing the gas, and the rpms do not drop.

At this point, the info has not spread around to all dealership staff. Most will have no clue what you are talking about until they hook your car up to the MVCI tester & see the trouble code first hand.

In working with your respective dealers, keep this in mind: The previous "control unit" (ECU) is part # 37820-RXO-A03. That part has been replaced. (I just confirmed that with Paul at College Hills Honda on 8/3/12)
The new ECU is part #37820-RXO-A05. Those last 6-digits look familiar, don't they?

Obviously SI owners desperate to reduce or eliminate rev hang don't need to replace their "03" ECU with an "05" ECU. Besides, there are only 32 of those new units in the entire country, at $396.65 each. Rather, your local Honda dealer will simply download the new program data -- the 05 -- into your existing unit, at no charge. That's why we're seeing this reference to an "XOA05" program update.

Hope that helps.

Got ours done Monday and even the wife commented on the improvement - Rev Hang is gone!
A Sweet Ride is even better.

From my experience Honda is not telling the dealerships anything about this, but if you can get them to plug the tester in the PGM-FI code will pop.
It took me 2 visits, and 2 e-mails, the final one to the owner at Bedard Bros. in Cheshire, MA before the service department "got religion".
The service manager then called Honda and was told an update doesn't exist. The owner then intervened and told them to hook it up - BINGO
Service writer was surprised. Total time from hook-up to leaving is under 20 minutes.

Ours is s/n FB6701137.
