2012 Civic Si Rev Hang - Software Update

Got ours done Monday and even the wife commented on the improvement - Rev Hang is gone!
A Sweet Ride is even better.

From my experience Honda is not telling the dealerships anything about this, but if you can get them to plug the tester in the PGM-FI code will pop.
It took me 2 visits, and 2 e-mails, the final one to the owner at Bedard Bros. in Cheshire, MA before the service department "got religion".
The service manager then called Honda and was told an update doesn't exist. The owner then intervened and told them to hook it up - BINGO
Service writer was surprised. Total time from hook-up to leaving is under 20 minutes.

Ours is s/n FB6701137.

Got the ECU update today. Dealer was not aware of it like so many others... Jury is still out on the rev hang.

Could be. I thought I read somewhere that Honda purposely put the rev hang on the cars for some emissions BS or something. I wish I could cite the source but it's been years since I've seen the article.
Ya basically from what I've heard they put it in to remove the slight rich point when the throttle closes and help with the emmisions rating.

Thank you. I couldn't remember specifically what it was.

I wish my Honda would honor doing.this they still won't hook up to it
You need to push them. Go to your sales person if necessary. Ask them who at Honda you need to contact if they will not do it. They do not have notification from Honda that this is a necessary update, which is part of the problem.

webby I got shut down harder this time talked to the gm showed him the post, he went with me to the service rep and pulled my vin still no campaign for it. I asked if he could hook it up and just check but told me I would be paying for it

I would be speaking to Honda US bigbossin. That's unacceptable service and I wouldn't put up with that!! I'm sure Honda wouldn't want thei customers treated like that.

they aren't going to see any bulletin, alert, or notice that this is available. So, the gm pulling your vin is useless. Go tell a tech you have a bad noise in your car, and you need him to do a ride along to see what he thinks. Print out the 1st post of the thread.... and let him read it on the ride. Explain there is an update and see if he'll hook it up when you get back.

Makes sense. Honda has won kudos for being the 'most green' auto manufacturer. One advisor also said Honda replaced "too many" synchros that wore out prematurely, which encouraged them to put in a heavier fly wheel to keep RPM up. That last part is total speculation... but I will be meeting with one of Honda's west coast managers, Barry, for all the juicy details on August 21st at 10:00am. He is known to have extensive product knowledge and very proactive in getting results for the customer. You good people will be the first to know what he says....

dont go in asking about the update or showing them the thread right away. complain about the rev hang and overrun, take them on a ride along if you must, when they confirm that it does seem to hang a lot, then tell them about this thread and to plug it in. another route (what i did) was complain about the rev hang blah blah blah, they confirm theres a problem, tell them your cousin works at honda in another state and told u about the fix, the update, yada yada yada. you have to be firm about the fact that theres no bullestins, that theres no type of anything on it and it cant be looked up by the VIN, you can only plug it in and itll find a recommended update.

There is NO CAMPAIGN for this issue (see my post) If your production date is earlier than November 2011 (my FB6 s/n is 701137) and you're unhappy with the Rev Hang, offer to pay for it if it doesn't "pop" the PGM-FI code.
I'd also call HONDA Customer Service and complain about the lack of respect from the dealership.

Thanks for the update, amigo.

This is very disappointing, isn't it? The re-flash may be our only option. And yet, if you wash the car with an unauthorized detergent it will invalidate the warranty.
