Mother Of All Whore Threads Non-VIP Edition v.1

6 hours of waiting. 10 minutes to remove the metal. Doctor was so rough. Can't open both my eyes for long periods.

I don't think so. Doctor swabbed all around my eye and messed up under my eye lid so it hurts from that. Makes it had to open both eyes though.

Curious. How would this go in the states? Would I still have to wait that long in emerg and then pay for the visit or are the wait times shorter?

It depends on where you go-- and somewhat where you live; Here in Dallas, if you need emergency care, they'll take you to Parkland by default since it's the city public hospital. The treatment won't be free, but it's where they will take you if you don't have insurance. If you have insurance, you can choose another private hospital and probably get a shorter wait time. Some folks literally just tough out horrible injuries here because of the upfront costs without insurance.

Treatment (Medical and interpersonal) hinges on insurance coverage; You'll wait a lot longer without insurance-- and pay a *ton* more.

All depends but that long of a wait time isn’t out of the ordinary if you just walk in in a bigger city. If the ambulance brings you….you kinda cut the line but may depend on injury/issue.

If you have insurance, they would cover x amount and you pay the remaining. But I would think since it was a work injury, your employers worker’s compensation coverage would pay for everything.

For example….when my dad dealt with ALS for about a year or so. We had 3 hospital visits, each one were 2-3 day stays. 2 visits we arrived in and ambulance and tended to him right away(breathing issues) and our 1st hospital visit(breathing issues) we had 2 or 3 hour wait and there were maybe 30 other people waiting for “service”. We also had another hospital visit because my dad fell and had a nasty cut on the top of his head and was kinda dizzy even after a few hours of the fall. That was another 3 hour wait.
Out of all stuff above……the treatments, specialist doctor visits, hospital, ambulance, medicines, in home tools to take care of him, in home care, a $10,000 motorized wheelchair, and I’m sure many other things…..he racked up about $350,000 in costs but we only paid $500, if that. He was on Medicaid/Medicare coverage(the US government provides this) that usually most people older than 60-65 usually get for free or really low yearly cost.

The main thing we had to pay out of pocket was transportation, especially since he needed wheelchair transportation. Also, they wouldn’t approve to pay some items/treatments the doctors wanted to give my dad. The insurance company(aka the government) did put costs over the doctors decisions for treatment….which sucks.

Totally depends on the population of the hospital/city, and it’ll depend on your injury. If you came in with chest pains, you’ll prob get into a room pretty quick most places. I’ve had er visits where I waited 3-5hrs before I saw someone, and I’ve had er visits where I was immediately taken back into a room. Then you get a bunch of bills in the mail for all the treatment, meds etc they give you. I’ve had in and out visits run 4-12k (before insurance). If you’ve met your insurance deductible, you may owe 20% out of pocket? Depends on your plan/deductible/max out of pocket on your policy for the year.

Interesting. Are there 24hr places you can just pay out of pocket for emergency stuff or is it only hospitals?

depends on the region, most areas have urgent care facilities where you can get seen quicker for less critical things. They're typically cheaper too i think

Yea, we've got minute clinics around here that you can get in much quicker and are typically a lot closer for people in rural areas

Yeah, we have little detached ER spots and small clinics that are open around the clock, but the rules for each one are different.

For the people who lose to you in street races, they can head over to a Minute Clinic to get their ego checked out.

  • Haha
Reactions: Dad
Around here (Baltimore Area) the Minute Clinic/Urgent Care/Patient First facilities are NOT open 24 hours.

Urgent Care - 9pm
Patient First - 10pm
Minute Clinic - 7:30pm-8:00pm (depending on location) - Here they are in Targets

This is prob the worst. Mainly the hospitals are only open 24/7. Some, very few, urgent cares open 24/7 but they don't treat every illness.....anything chest/breathing related, you have to go to the hospital.

A long time a go during 4th of july, I ended up cutting myself and needed stitches. Since it was a holiday and later in the day, I had to go to the hospital. It wasn't super busy but the let me walk in since I was non stop bleeding, lol. I ended up with 7 stitches and maybe an hour total visit.

The hostipal charged my insurance $4,200 and I paid out about $800 of that amount.

If I would of gone to an urgent care(they were all closed at that time) the cost might have been half.

We have a few walk in clinics, but they all close around 8-9pm. It is usually cheaper than an er visit, but the walk in clinics can only do certain things. If you’re in bad shape they’ll send you to the er.
