Mother Of All Whore Threads Non-VIP Edition v.1

says the guy who had a cobb aftermarket tune on his wrx ;)

That was MANY years ago. I had that WRX from 2007-2014 but didn't have the Cobb AP when I first got it.
Don't forget the catless DP I had for most of the time I had the car ;)

Agreed, but some manufacturers are doing a bit too much. From what I’ve seen VAG uses “ELSA”? and it’ll flag your car with a “TD1” as soon as they jack into your OBDII. Audi refused to service the Mag Suspension or Haldex on my S3 because the car had been flagged for a tune. Subaru seems to be a bit more lenient regarding mods but that’s probably because of the class actions on their engines.
That's different, an engine tune wouldn't directly affect those systems.

That’s what I’m getting at. You’d think that, right? Their thought process though? More power stresses the drivetrain and suspension. I’m sure one could lawyer up and win a case but most don’t go that route.

They also count the launches the cars go thru. You have launch control for a quick 0-60. But watch out, they’re counting those.

well i can see where they're coming from with the haldex. it would be more stress on it for sure. the problem is when i get warranty work it usually pays 75% less than customer pay work. so when i see something like this thats gonna make me less money and the customer modified the car and tries to warranty the issue i get angry.

had to replace a wrangler 3.6l engine a few years ago for being hydro locked symptoms but could tell the customer tried to hide how it happened. i found pictures on his facebook of him driving in high water off road. we replaced it under warranty.

I didn’t know that. Y’all get shafted as far repairs go. One of my friends was a Mechanic (Lube Tech/Helper) and he quickly switched up to a Service Writer. The stories I hear about Paid Hours is ridiculous. Also, I fully agree that a customer should be liable for repairs if a specific mod directly affects said failed part, I just think SOME manufacturers are getting a bit out of hand. What I DO like is how some of them are actually encouraging buyers to use their cars for their intended purpose though. Like Toyota with their free track memberships.

yeah, and a lot of them offer warranty approved mods you can buy through them as well. obviously not as good as aftermarket for making any power but still nice.

you couldnt pay me enough to be a service writer/advisor. i dont do well with customers getting angry at me. ive had two customers yell at me in my 10 years here, i took it for a bit but i lose my **** if its constant. one customer said sorry and gave me a gift card. second one apologized the next day. service writers dont get paid much money.

Really? I don’t know what you consider “much” but every single one I personally know makes ~$100-150k. One at Chevy, one at Mercedes, another at BMW and one at Porsche.

I’m the say way in my field. I don’t have the mentality to play nice when I’m being belittled by customers. One of the reasons I don’t go into business for myself.

Maybe they don’t advertise commission? Cause, you can imagine, these dudes make a killing selling oil changes, brakes and tires to older folks with Mercedes and BMWs. They get a base salary then their commission check. Also get bonuses based on their CSR Score.

Was it Toyota that denied a engine claim for a guy in a Supra(when it came out) due to the dealership finding video on the customers facebook page of the customer racing at a track. Which ended up being footage of the customer at one of those Toyota sponsored events. I believe the customer made a big hoopla about it "online" and eventually Toyota covered everything as they were getting huge backlash.

It was a GR86 and they backpedaled real quick. They also found RTV in the Oil Pickup, which is a VERY common issue, which caused oil starvation. Don’t think they’re acknowledging the issue yet either. There are countless videos and threads about how to drop the pan and clean debris now.

That's it....not sure where I got Supra from, lol.

If I were to buy one of them, I would make them pull the oil pan and inspect and remove any RTV on the oil pickup. lol

unless there was a bulletin for the issue youd be paying out of pocket for that job. lol.

They actually disable it after X amount of launches. Any aftermarket TCU Tune removes that though.
With all these manufacturers doing updates over air, what makes you think they’re not downloading car data and keeping a database of launch data and a discrepancy would be raised if they detected differences?

took a quick look under the hood of the trx today. noticed the crank pulley is pushed out about an inch.

reminds me of rich rebuilds on youtube. He has had tons of his tesla cars banned from tesla supercharging and stuff, because he buys and works on wrecked/salvaged title teslas. tesla remotely blocks his cars from using charging stations based on vin I guess
