Not quite a Civic... but still fun

30k would buy you 1/10 of a mint one.

@ethlar did you see the Cosworth motor for the Singer cars???? DROOOOOOOL

its a thing of freaking beauty

Stock specs:
idle: ~1000 rpms +/- 50rpms
ignition advance at idle: -5 deg
points gap: start at .012in

How the car was sitting until just now
idle: 2000rpms
ignition advance @ idle: +25deg at least
points gap: gap... what gap?

and this was how it was delivered from a german auto specialist...

finally got to lay hands on it, while it sounded decent as it was delivered, that was not how it was supposed to be running. Took half a hour to swap ignition boxes and get the distributor advance set roughly right. Achived running like this

sent the video off to the guy who saw the led on the ignition box going nuts and diagnosed it as bad signal, the box thinks the engine is overreving due to repeated signals from the engine and is trying to cut spark, probably cause, points poorly adjusted.

Got into the distributor today and found the points were just smashed together, they never separated, got them adjusted roughly right and now it does this

so far the theory is that the car needs a $5 set of points and i have to find a ancient dwell meter to calibrate them properly

this was from the original mechanic, im the only one wrenching on the car now

Well at least it’s just a $5 part potentially, so that’s good. Hey, it’s running!

this is true, its running and its running on the ignition box that the old mechanic said was a dud

You seriously need to flame the F out of this **** *** shop you have been dealing with. You, joe blow car enthusiast, does better work than a "specialist".

F*ck them!

im just looking forward to going back to him to get all the warranty paperwork for the various parts, and handing him the worn points

New points in, dwell set right on the first try, cars running great. Till the idle started creeping up and then it wouldnt start after a 30 min sit. set the idle bypass way out of spec to get the car back to running and home. Checked the aux air valve and found it was unplugged. Fixed that and now it seems to be running as it should.

Now im wondering what else could be unplugged or set wrong and ill never know till it breaks

That mechanic who worked on it needs exposed with all of the issues you’ve had.

i do still need to get the paperwork for the warranty on the various parts from him

its nice of them to offer financing, i wonder if they accept kidneys and theoretical future first born children?

Also i think thats the color i want to paint the 944 project i dream about

911 update: since firing the mechanic and getting the CDI+ in tune, the car has not had to make a trip on a flatbed. Starts up on demand regardless of weather conditiions and gets driven semi regularly.

Probably have to start thinking about doing an oil change... all 12 quarts of it

a little over 2 years ago as i was getting ready to move to Houston, had to ferry her home from a spot wetsanding, paint correction and full Modesta coating treatment done by TLC Auto Detail. The battery wasnt holding a charge and the car wasnt in tune for a 100+ degree day. Got caught in traffic and couldnt get it to turn over again. Stuck a new battery in the next day and bought a battery tender, has been trouble free since.

Last week, she got her first maintenance wash and cleaned up great
