Official Computer Talk Thread

Can you list some titles? Others may be able to throw out suggestions, but I’d have to look up specific game specs to see how hardware intensive they are.

Sure! :excited:
Phantasy Star Online 2
Dragon Quest XI
Dragon Star Varnir
Final Fantasy XIV
Tales of Berseria
Atelier Ryza
Monster Hunter World

There's more, but #self-control.

============

pasting this info so it's saved in a post before I lose it

so, Atelier Ryza is recommending Core i7 6700 (4 core) or over, 16 gigs or ram, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 or over. That appears to be the most intensive game on the list you provided.

the rx5500 actually did worse than the gtx 1660 despite having less ram on chip according to tom's
Winner: Nvidia. Despite having the superior on-paper specifications and equivalent software features, in a competition of might, the GTX 1660 outperformed the RX 5500 XT in almost every test we threw at these two cards. Nvidia’s configuration appears much more capable of handling games with maximum graphics settings enabled than AMD’s. Strangely, the RX 5500 XT is a stronger competitor with medium settings, but why would you settle for medium if you don’t need to?

If you want to future proof things a bit, or run crazy settings you may want to opt for 32 gigs or ram seeing as how that one game recommends 16 gigs? I'd also look at the 1660 from nvidia or higher based on that game. You may want to look at the 1660 ti? You can see some of those cards pitted against one another in a handful of games to see how their frame rates compare in this article-

What kind of router is everyone here running? Looking to add a new router to see if I can help stabilize my wifi. Was looking at a mesh system but don't think it's necessarily worth it for our size house. All opinions are appreciated.

what internet speeds do you currently pay for? That will determine what models would not be a good fit

I use a Netgear CM600 Gigabit Modem and a Netgear AC1750 'Nighthawk' Router.

Not on hand I could probably get some.
If you have the ability to run a cat cable to wherever you’d like better access, the ubiquiti access points work essentially like a mesh router. It’ll pick up and hand off connections to other access points or the router. So you could put as few or as many of their access points in the house and roam on one ssid without dropping connection anywhere. I’d say just get the ac lite as the 5ghz channel can basically do gigabit. If you have to get 1 gigabit, you can opt for the ac pro which does 1300 megs in 5ghz.

So with those you don't have to add anything other than that?

You keep your current router (or any router) and you run a network cable from the router to every one of those access points. They’re usually found in commercial applications like hospitals, hotels, warehouses, large retail/businesses. They make a lot of commercial networking products as well.

Ok I went ahead and ordered the pro one. From what I could tell the range is enough to cover anywhere in my house from a central spot.
