Tak - The <3 of my 9th Gen Civic FB2

I’ve been arranging time and a shop to get my passenge rear door repaint that blends to front passenger door and rear quarter panel. I will treat this as my birthday gift.

My car has been fixed by a geico shop in the past. Last time when I got rear ended, they replaced my rear bumper and I asked them to refinish the left side. So now more than half of the left side has fresh paint and clear coat plus rear bumper.

Should I go back to the same geico shop to refinish the right side in this case?

I’m worried that if I use another shop, the paint will be off, in which, for example, the left may be whiter than the right. I’m thinking because different shops may mix paint or use paint materials differently.

What’s your thought and opinion?

Thanks

See if the shop you took it to before will paint the right side too, but there isn't always a guarantee that the paint will match with practically any color. There is a lot of yellow and blue that goes in to white to get it the right shade and most times the same painter with the same materials wont put out the same color. Just be sure if/when you have it done that you pick up the car on a bright and sunny day and look at the panels from as many angles as you can before you accept the car back. Working in the body shop world and being a car guy I can notice mismatched panels from a mile away and it will stand out if they don't get it close enough

The paint should match at any shop. They have the codes for the paint, and that’s how any shop gets the paint to match the oem. If they’re a lot higher than any other shop, you could always ask if they would match another quote or work on the price. All they can say is no.

That's true that they have the paint codes but they still have to mix and tint the paint to match other panels on the car with paint fade from the sun etc.

This weekend was a maintenance day. I had my friend’s shop swapped out the tensioner, idler pulley, and rear torque mount.

The tensioner and idler pulley have been noisy. Also I have been feeling the movement when shifting or accelerating. Sometimes I heard knock noise. The rear torque mount was wearing out bad.

The near future maintenance would be most likely the shock/strut with ball joints.

Hmm, I'd never seen a mount from the R18. I didn't know they were entirely rubber/poly.

Wow yea that’s not looking good
@webby
Yes I can tell you. After my civic got a new tensioner, idler pulley, belt and the rear torque mount, for some reason my car is now driving so damn smooth. No hesitate in accelerating. I guess with a new tensioner with a new belt restores the car performance combined with less engine movements.

@fahnix yes the rear torque mount uses rubber insert. Mine was severely worn out. I could literally punch that rubber out with a little finger. I can’t believe I’ve been driving with that

That's crazy! I love when the difference is that pronounced after a repair.

I have been troubleshooting an annoying issue. From time to time, I hear some noise from air vent. The noise is like “di di di di di di”. I did replace the cabin filter. Sometime when I hear this noise, I just turn off the car then turn it back on. Then it goes away. Any information for troubleshooting is appreciated. Thanks

I had noisy vents when I first got my car. Turns out there was some debris stuck in the system after the cabin air filter if I remember correctly. I think they may have blown it out from the vent side with the cabin filter out.

I guess it’s time to hunt for a new set of rims. Finally an excuse.
A couple of days ago, when I was driving my car in the morning, all of a sudden, I got the low tire air pressure alert. Found out the right rear passenger wheel was losing air. I then went to a shop nearby and they said I got a nail in the tire. Patched it and good
I then drove it for the whole day. Later that night. Same thing happened. Found another tire shop nearby. They said tire was losing air on the side. No good. Put the donut.
Next day I went back to the shop where I bought 4 new Continental tire last summer. They said it’s not the tire itself but the rim. The tire was good and still holding air. There were 3 bents in the inner edge. They don’t recommend repairing it. They said if they want me to put the tire back, the rim has to be good.
For now as an temp solution, I just put back the oem steel wheel in the front set and put the aftermarket wheels in the rear set
I’m on the road hunting new rims. The tire shop where I bought new tires recommend me buying a pair to be balancing it out. I’m thinking I may ditch this set and get all new 4 corners.

I got a quote from a rim specialist shop. $120 for rim straightening, tire mounting and balancing. Not bad. I’m gonna get it done because my car is a daily driver. I’m not feeling the car with front steely wheel. This thing can’t take corner and noisy. I’m gonna get the rim repair first and will look into buy all new 4 corners in a near future.

FYI, you’re always supposed to put the donut on the rear tire (on a front wheel drive car). So, if the front tire blows or whatever, you take the donut tire and put it in the rear. Then take the full size good rear tire and put it up front. That way you have full rubber up front for turns/stopping etc.

Hi @webby

those aren’t donut. Those are stock oem rims, 15”.

I put oem 15” steely on front set and aftermarket 17” on rear. Will they potentially run into problem?

oh my bad. You're fine running the oem up front like that. I didn't read your post correctly. I was thinking you had a donut up front you were complaining about.

So after 2 weeks back n forth dealing with the bent tire, I was being run around.

My friend knew a local company which does rim repair. They said they helped straighten the rim, but it’s still leaking in the bead. The picture shows it’s leaking air after the rim is straightened.

I went back to the tire shop and said because of the bent rim, they can’t help unless a new rim is provided. They are strongly confident that the issue is the rim not the tire.

So I was in new rim hunting. No luck yet because the color of the rim I want is back ordered. It will be available in mid June or early July. There are lots of rim with black color but I don’t want black on white civic. I wanted to stick with the white color or silver. It seems these 2 colors aren’t as popular. Waiting until July is not helping my situation.

I found a company which still carry a couple of my current rim brand new. I may get one ordered because the current white rim is hard to get now as it seems to be discontinued. For now, I want something to fix my car first. If I get the deal, I will place the order then bring the new rim to the tire shop and ask them to get it mounted. If the tire is really the issue, I will ask the tire replaced it under the warranty. If not, I’m just going to get a new tire, too.

I'd imagine it's the rim, but they couldn't just slap another tire on there to verify? It'd take two minutes to test another tire

That rim repair shop told my friend that they don’t have the size of the tire and asked me to reach out to Continental directly for tire warranty. I imagine this is a non sense.

they could have pulled a tire off another one of your wheels
