between the 18 and the 17 you adjust the size of the tire to maintain the same outer diameter as the stock wheel. They would be basically the same size around the outside of the wheel. Maintaining the stock circumference of the wheel means that you speedometer and odometer are still correct and that your spare tire in the trunk will still fit and work if you get a flat.
17's use a 225/45 tire
18's use a 225/40 tire
Both should be off by less than 1%.
That is correct! But the 225/45 on a 17 would actually be taller than the stock rim and tire setup I believe. I know a lot of my friends with 8thgen would swap to 225/45 and then end up rubbing....but I think it's like you said still within close range of the stock setup. I know for a fact my stock rims and 18s with 225/40 are the same height...
