between the 18 and the 17 you adjust the size of the tire to maintain the same outer diameter as the stock wheel. They would be basically the same size around the outside of the wheel. Maintaining the stock circumference of the wheel means that you speedometer and odometer are still correct and that your spare tire in the trunk will still fit and work if you get a flat.

17's use a 225/45 tire

18's use a 225/40 tire

Both should be off by less than 1%.

That is correct! But the 225/45 on a 17 would actually be taller than the stock rim and tire setup I believe. I know a lot of my friends with 8thgen would swap to 225/45 and then end up rubbing....but I think it's like you said still within close range of the stock setup. I know for a fact my stock rims and 18s with 225/40 are the same height...

Rubbing seems to really depend a lot on the tire itself. My old set of 225/45 didn't rub and my new ones do, but only on the passenger side rear. No where else! Hahaha, factory freak fender.

I mean, I think ideal size for performance would be something like a 235/40 on a nice light 17". A little shorter but more contact patch with less sidewall.

Honestly you hit the nail on the head.... 235/40/17 is the prefect size tire for these civic but now it would be 245/35/18 is also another one as well I had a 235/40/17 S-drives on my 8thgen with acura TL TYPE S rims which were 17x8+45 and that was prefect!

If this has been asked sorry lol I'm on my phone and don't feel like going through all 20 pages, is anyone running H& R springs with a 17x9 +30 offset wheel? Any rubbing? Fender work needed to be done?
 
Ok here we go. I'm running on Konig Milligrams 18x8.5 +35 In the Front +45 In the back. All on 235/40R18 Hankook Ventus V12 evo2.
KSport Coilovers with a good drop. No spacers and definitely had to roll and pull my fenders.

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of getting new wheels for my EX-L. Will 17x8.25 +35 be too wide? Will it look funny on stock height? (Although I consider lowering my car with springs in the future)

Or should I stay with 17x7+ sizes? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
 
17x8.25 +35 will be just fine on your car. Lowering your car only helps improve the fitment (slight camber and no fender gap). :)
 
I am still on stock rubber :hyper::hyper::hyper: New tires are my next move since every time it rains I feel like I have entered a fwd drift contest
 
How hard will it be to fit a 18x9.5 +22 and or a 18x9.5 +30 offset (Varrstoen ES8)?????
I will be lowered on BC Racing Coils come Wednesday

Thanks for the feedback. What size tires ideal for the setup i'm looking at? I've been reading 225/45/17s or 235/45?
 
Im getting 18X9.5 wheels and with my drop im asking what tires would be good to clear my fenders with my drop? ^^^^^

This will all depend on your drop (springs/coilovers) also. That is a wide wheel, and in order to make something of those specs work, you will need to do a few things to avoid issues.
I ran 9.5 with a 205/40/17 and had no issues, but rubbed with my 215/40s. Take in account that I was also slammed and running front and rear camber. If you're just going to do a drop, assuming a couple of inches, I would suggest go with a smaller wheel--18x8 +40 to +35 with a nice 225/40. No issues.
However, this is all advice and opinions, you are free to do what you please with your car. You just need to know what you want as your final product/look of your car to be able to determine what you can do. I just don't want to see you, or anyone else unhappy with a fitment due to rubbing or scraping and what not.
